Steve Howe

Spectrum
Spectrum is Steve Howe’s newest solo musical offering and a delight it is! Although it’s predecessor, Elements had its moments, this one is much more to my liking.
Guest musicians are Tony Levin on bass, Dylan Howe (his son) on drums, Oliver Wakeman (son of Rick) and Virgil Howe (Steve’s other son) on keyboards.
Spectrum [...]

Patrick Moraz – Resonance

An album of beautiful and colorful music from veteran keyboardist Patrick Moraz, one time member of Yes, the Moody Blues and Refugee.

Lace Alumitone Pickups

Lace has come up a dramatic change in pickups. Conventional pickups are voltage designed, meaning it’s the voltage in the current that makes them work. The Alumitone is current-driven instead. What this means is a much more fluid system which allows smoother operation.

Glass

Illuminations
They’re back! Glass was a seventies band that had never released an album, although they’d recorded enough material for several. In 2001 they released some of it under the title No Stranger to the Skies. We were the first to review this album and interview the band.
Now they’re back with a totally new album and [...]

John & Angela Taylor – Band Aide (A Band and Gig Survival Guide)

A nice little pocket guide to putting a band together and getting gigs and all the fun in between, The Taylors address areas often neglected in other such books, I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to put a band together or to anyone who wants to join a band and be a serious part of it.

Maxon D & S II

The Maxon Distortion and Sustain II is an incredibly nice stomp box. Really nice. A nasty little distortion box with all the sustain you want for emphasizing parts of a song when you really want the distortion to resound and be present.

Bill Bruford

Winterfold’s re-releases of Bill Bruford’s albums continuews with One of a Kind. This album was originally recorded after his stint with UK and before King Crimson and features a very interesting list of musicians.

The Fast Axe

Here’s the real tool for the job of cleaning your guitar, the Fast Axe. It’s three brushes on one tool (shaped like a Strat so that you don’t mix it up with other brushes around the house!), two soft brushes and a longer, more rigid one. And you’ll find it more effective than using an old piece of soft cloth!

Babicz Guitars

Jeff Babicz has not redesigned the acoustic guitar, he re-invented it. You’ve probably seen photos of these unique guitars in places like Acoustic Guitar Magazine. A-J has managed to get one to try out for the readers of Guitar Noise. Here is his review.

Guitar Legends – The Ultimate Anthology

Now here is a DVD you absolutely want. For anyone who enjoys guitar or Classic Rock here is a great item. Some of the greatest guitarists performing with their original bands. All in concert and all incredible!

Blue Oyster Cult – A Long Day’s Night

Blue Oyster Cult performs in Chicago in 2002, playing Godzilla, Don’t Fear the Reaper and many other favorites. The DVD also includes bonus band interviews, fan interviews and behind the scenes footage.

Asia

The Rock Vaults
In the late 80s and early 90s, Central Music put together a roster for a series to showcase legendary British Rock Acts.
The series was designed for broadcast on television and a later release on VHS and Laser Disc. Unfortunately, the series never achieved the fame it should have and many of the shows [...]

Guyatone Tuners

A-J gives us a review of not one, but two of Guyatone’s tuners – the PT-21 and the MT3 models.

Genesis – From Genesis To Revelation

Demon Music Group gives a true trip down memory lane with the re-release of the very first album ever recorded by Genesis, way back in 1968, when the band consisted of Peter Gabriel (lead vocals and flute), Mike Rutherford on bass and guitar, Tony Banks on keyboards, Anthony Phillips on guitars and drummer John Silver.

Transcendental Psychology

Certainly a worthy successor to their previous effort, TransPsych’s Redefinition has a complicity that’s deeper than on their first album, more elements of Funk and elements of Hip-Hop, not present on the first album, give this a new coloring.

Guyatone VT-3 Vintage Tremolo

The VT-3 is a really cool stomp box from Guyatone. The tremolo effect is amazingly powerful from such a little device. It sounds big, but it also sounds clean and clear, just as if it were coming straight from a vintage amp!

Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies – Honesty Box

Amazing songwriting on a CD which also showcases a very good bunch of musicians. Never going overboard or being too technical, they just do what they do incredibly well with great results.

Gary Moore

A terrific tribute to the great Gary Moore, brought to you by Lion Music and featuring artists such as Joop Walters and Mark McGee.

The Jet Slide

A fabulous innovation that will completely change the way you look at the guitar. The Jet Slide is a thin slide which you put on your ring finger with a ring. It stays behind your ring finger and pinky, completely out of the way so that you can play your guitar normally without having to worry about it. No more hassle putting on and taking off a slide!

Reeves Gabrels – Rockonica

Something quite different and non-mainstream from Reeves Gabrels, the guitarist of Tin Machine. Strange in a totally out to lunch way, yet extremely brilliant with its incredibly well-written and well-built songs.
