probably not ...

you usually dont want to put a bridge pup in the neck position ... it's usually wound hotter and can end up giving you a very 'woofy' sound with a muddy bass response and unbalanced mids i have a duncan '59 (neck version) in the neck of one of my guitars and love it .. it has a warm, full sound with...

Re: guitar sound through the pa

hueseph,

a DI box only changes the impedance - taking it from high z (unbalanced) to low z (balanced), not the signal strength .. in order to go from instrument level (~-4) to line level (+10), you need a preamp (which also can serve to change impedance)

Re: vg-88 custom travel case

i faced this issue when i got my gr-33 .. how to transport it safely to gigs? here is my solution .. i went to salvation army and bought a second hand hardshell suitcase for US$7.00 ... then i went to a home improvement store and bought a package of foam insulating sheets and a roll of duct tape for...

Re: What amp for VG-88 multieffects?

i use the ag100D because i wanted one simple amp to do two things at once ... my guitar has 3 outputs, 1 for the 'electric' pickups, 1 for the piezo 'acoustic' pickup, and one for the GK synth channel 1 of the amp is what i use for the piezo output of my guitar ... the piezo gives a very good approx...

Re: What amp for VG-88 multieffects?

i use a carvin ag-100D with my roland gr-33 guitar synth .. it has a tweeter and a 12" ... it faithfully and colorlessly amplifies the synth sound, much as i think it would the VG 88 sound .. i very much hope tto have a vg 88 within a year and fully expect to play it through the carvin with fine res...

Re: guitar sound through the pa

if you like the tone from your amp, you have half the battle won .. now if we help the PA faithfully reproduce that, you're golden ... very doable ... mike your guitar cab with the sm57 .. the "3'o'clock position is favored, but i dont know why" .. aim the mic parallel to the angle of the speaker, a...

Re: new band's first gig

LOL - yeah - we picked steely dan tunes that we could actually DO ... if i had my way, i'd be on stage with a 10 or 12 piece band recreating Aja in its entirety :-) we threw in 'bodhistatva' too  .. it was rough because we had only gotten through it once or twice in practice, but it was fun to play ...

Re: whats the difference?...distortion etc

the terms overdrive and distortion are frequently used interchangeably because overdriving causes distortion ... one can use a distortion pedal to create an effect similar to overdriven distotion without actually overdriving the amp ... but the sound of overdrive / distortion can very from 'gritty' ...

new band's first gig

my new band, Beyond Logic, has its debut gig today .. playing 10 songs or so at an outdoor neighborhood block party .. we play 'complicated classic rock' ... opening with 'funeral for a friend / love lies bleeding' by elton john ... then "rikki don't lose that number' and 'reeling in the years' by s...

Re: Silly knobs

i feel fine had a lot of tremelo on it - if your amp doesnt have this effect, you wont be able to cop it exactly for country, you want to use the clean channel and reduce the bass and tweak the mids to taste with plenty of highs blues are typically mid heavy with rolled back highs ... set the OD gai...

Re: driving a tube amp

does it have both preamp tubes and power amp tubes ? if so, i think the preamp tubes will control the 'cranked' quality of (over)drive ... the long sweet sustain of high gain, or the 'crunch' that you can get from diggin in to some chords .. if you want a solid hard rock sound, youre gonna have to d...

Re: violin amp??

i recommend that she try the carvin ag100d .. it is small, lightweight, loud and clean with digital effects too (nice for a little reverb and chorus to sweeten things up) it has a small tweeter to reproduce the high frequencies nicely, a 12" for the majority of the sound, and a bass port to add some...
