Krenz's program is a graduated instructional system that starts you out as an absolute beginner and takes you all the way to being a master . His approach is different than Scotty's. He is more technique based. One thing I like about Scotty is he is able to explain things like no one else can. Both ...

Absolutely Understand Guitar by Scotty West (DVD lessons)

Absolutely Understand Guitar by Scotty West is the very best educational program I have ever used. I have boat loads of books, CDs and DVD and this one takes the cake. He explains music theory in a way that I can grasp it. Now I can finally go back through my pile of theory books and actually unders...

Sorry for the delay... I went through all of my Guitar Player and Guitar World issues, before realizing it is in Guitar One . It was the June 2007 issue and Alex is on the cover. Here is the quote: "Geddy's been driving me crazy for years now saying, 'You should only ever have a Les Paul in your han...

Scales and Modes Over Chord Progression

Yesterday I uncovered something in my lessons... I want to run it by the gurus to see if I am thinking straight... Not sure if I can convey this, because I am JUST starting to get my fingers around it... When you play the lead (scale) for a I IV V, you do not change keys, you simply stay in the I (r...

Are you keeping your fingers as close to the fretboard as possible when they are removed? That is something to practice. Most people play a riff like that by swinging their fingers away (due mostly to rushing for the fast tempo). Try concentrating on keeping your fingers right there hovering just ab...

IMHO you should start with the major scale trying out all key possibilities. Most everything else relates to the major nicely and will be easier to understand after you have it down pat. Also, when you practice it, try doing it different ways... I.E.: 1. one day, say, "Whole, whole, half, whole, wh...

I saw them in No. VA at the Nissan Pavilion. they were fantastic! I noticed the Les Paul deal as well. Then, I read in one of my magazines (Guitar World or Player) that he plans on doing that from now on. He says it isn't an endorsement deal, he mentioned something about Geddy saying, "You sound you...

I have used it. I think it is a pretty good program. I think that Scotty West's program (Absolutely Understand the Guitar) is better. But, Krenz's instruction is easy to follow and well laid out.

I'll probably be upgrading the amp....and the most I'm willing to spend right now is around $500-$550...something like that....and a 24 fret model....and I don't know about string gauge, could you explain what that is and what's better for different kinds of playing? Gauge is the thickness of the s...

What is your price range? Do you like 22 or 24 fret models? Do you use/require a tremelo? What guage strings do you prefer? When I think heavy metal, I think: Jackson Kirk Hammet model, Dave Mustaine (I think he plays Dean) model, PRS 24 custom with a Floyd Rose or a Zakk Wylde and Slash influenced ...
