Been away awhile
Hey everyone. It's been awhile since I last logged on. Had a lot of change going on, music and otherwise. Band-wise, Undercover is no more. One of our guitarists wanted to take a short break while he got married and moved into a new house. A one month break turned into several months and there were ...

Re: Teaching band members a song...
We are all adults and expect each other to learn the song on their own time, but like you say, not everyone catches every little detail. We just play through it in practice and when I, or someone else, notices something, we'll either stop the song there if it's major or wait til the end if it's some...

Re: What's Happening Everyone?
Still playing, mostly bass. The band is still going strong. We had a lull between April and June due to some of us travelling and we didn't beat the bushes to book any gigs. We started hitting up some of our places and we have 3 gigs over the next 3 weeks. I'm getting ready to pack up for one tonigh...

Let me know next time you are in town. There's some great little blues spots, including an open jam in a BBQ joint north east of the city.

Re: Bad ears then what?
I've never had a very good ear. Whenever I'm learning a song, I always look online for the chords. I started taking vocal lessons from a friend about a month or so ago. The first week, we didn't do any singing. He just had me play the C major scale (in all different modes) all over the neck of my gu...

Re: Gig Report: Southern Roots @The Ville, Or Jinxed Again!
That is terrible. All the work of setting up and tearing down has to be balanced by the fun of playing live. Setup + soundcheck = 3 hours, and loadout usually takes about half that. A four hour show means we're on-site for 8 hours. Plus our singer had a 1 1/2 hour drive each way. We were NOT happy ...

Re: Your favourite covers!
Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower is, IMHO, better than Bob Dylan's original.
Damon Johnson (from Brother Cane) does a very cool acoustic version of Working Man Blues (Haggard).
Chris Cornell's slowed down, bluesy version of Billie Jean is very cool.

Gig report - Undercover at Barefoot Charlie's
So, we've been trying to get a gig at this place for a while. It's very convenient to me and our guitar/singer. It's in the same city as where we practice and a mile from guitar/singer's house. It's also an all ages venue as it is a restaurant that also has a bar. There is no stage, just a part of t...

Re: USEAUS @ The Rustic Inn (Ottawa, IL)
Sounds like a great night! Me and 1 of the other members of my band have been wanting to add some Matchbox 20, but have had resistance from another member. We keep saying it will go over great.

Ok, so we got... hammer1: 0:00 - 0:58 boxboy: 0:58 - 1:53 jwmartin: 1:53 - 2:48 So, we still have 2 spots left. I'll wait a couple more days and if we don't get any takers, I'll shrink the backing track down. Just record your guitar separate and send me your track. I'll PM you guys my email or a dro...

Haven't had a jam in a while...here's a backing track
Was working on some bass exercises and one of them was "in the style of" Cream's song "Strange Brew". So, I threw a backing drum track down, hit record and jammed a bit. Went back and added some rhythm guitar. Now it's ready for y'all's lead work. Who's up for a jam? I figure everyone take 2 rounds ...
