"Dirty South" (their 2004 album) was absolutely fantastic! I never thought of them - doh!
I convinced two other members today and we're going to attempt "Goddam Lonely Love" next session.
Thanks!

"Open to anything" but not Skynyrd, Radiohead, or anything newer than 1985...? That's the toughest part about big groups - finding common ground. Sorry, i should have specified.. *I* am open to anything. Some of the other guys I play with aren't :( I agree - it is a very hard part finding common gr...

Thanks - I really appreciate all the suggestions! A couple of problems though: 1) Radiohead is out, because apparently all music stopped after 1985 for one of our senior guitarists. We're working on changing his mindset (wow, we tried something wild and crazy like "Foo Fighters" recently and he didn...

Songs for 3-4 guitarists?

Hi all, The guys I jam with are a varied bunch, ranging in skill level from beginner to "locked himself in his room for his teenage years and slept with his telecaster" master shredder, but we pick songs that we can all have fun with... However, lately, there's been 3-4 electric guitarists showing u...

Power chords - determining key?

With power chords, how does one determine the key? I've read a little bit, and know that an E5 is formed of E & B notes, but how does that help with determining the key? For example, looking at a Green Day song, I see intro: "E5 B5 C#5 G#5 A5 E5 B5", and then verses are pretty much "A5 B5 E5", and c...

Using a capo to change song key....

Hi folks, I know there's a couple of articles on capos & song keys by David on here, but i'm having trouble putting it all together. Basically, there is a song ( http://olga.net/dynamic/browse.php?printer=0&local=main/m/mclachlan_sarah/push.crd that has chords such as Bb, Eb, Cm, etc. Changing it to...

Finger position question....

In the following guitar tab snippet (Pearl Jam's "Betterman" if you care), i have a question about finger positions. For the first little bit, both the 6th & 3rd strings are 2nd fret and 2nd string is third fret, so i used my index finger on 6th string, middle finger for 3rd, and ring finger for 2nd...

Re: Meet and Greet

My name is Craig and I'm 29 from Ottawa, Canada. I just bought an acoustic guitar this summer and took a brief set of beginner instructions (eight 1 hour sessions) with a great instructor and loved it!  I've been trying to teach myself some songs over the summer and to keep practicing and playing.  ...
