Re: Good Recording Soundcard?

I use the Edirol FA-66. It is awesome. It has lower latency than most other soundcards out there in its price range. The preamps are decent too.

Re: One more finger style question?

I personally don't plant when I play fingerstyle. But it does take practice to get used to it, which it looks like you're doing anyway.

Re: Temporarily using acrylic nails for fingerstyle?

I once heard that taking gelatin capsules or eating a lot of Jello would strengthen nails. But I talked to a pharmacist and he told me gelatin wouldn't really work and that just taking a multivitamin would help strengthen them. He said the protein is what makes them stronger. I started taking a mult...

Re: thumb pick...re broken nail

+1 on the plastic thumbpick. I also play steel string acoustic w/ just my thumbnail, but I keep a thumbpick in my git case just in case I do break my thumbnail.

Re: My Moral Dilemma

Something my parents did with me when I first started showing interest in guitar (can be used for any instrument) was that they wouldn't buy me one until I learned how to play it first. So I borrowed my grandfather's guitar and my grandmother told me not to bring it back until I learned how to play ...

Re: Any Opinions on..

The basic "gist" of the book is how to use the CAGED method and then it has some scales. Depends on what your playing style is and what you want to learn. If you want to learn basic rock guitar, its a great book. I have been trying to develop my fingerstyle and now play mostly open chords relying a ...

Re: What does it mean when a guitar is "Easy to play"?

Looks like you answered your own question. Width and thickness are 2 different things. Yes the width is the width of the fingerboard ( or frets as you say) and the thickness is the diameter. I don't own a Taylor but the ones I have played have a wider fingerboard than say a Martin would have. If I'm...

Re: Care and feeding of my guitar

The guy at my shop told me bore oil (for horns) could be applied lightly every 6 months or so... though I haven't tried it yet. The inside of my guitar case stays at a steady 55% relative humidity and my fingers sweat alot, so I'm not worried about anything drying out or cracking (at least I don't t...
