Re: Wammy Bar

Hmm, I have a Yamaha Pacifica 112J (strat clone), and I just unscrewed the whammy bar without any of these other adjustments (tape, plywood, etc.) mentioned in this thread. I haven't noticed any problems. Should I be making any other adjustments, or am I probably fine?

Re: It's too late

When moving from Cmaj7 to Fmaj 7 you have to put your index finger back on the 2nd string otherwise you won't get the C and then that wouldn't be F at all :D it would be... some other chord, wow now I am curious what chord would it be ? It would be cacophony. Fmaj7b5? Whatever it is, I don't want t...

Re: learning multiple songs?

I'm still at the stage of big pauses while I get my barre chords situated! I'm finding that it's a lot harder to move from open to barre chords (and vice versa) than it is to go from barre to barre. I actually tend to "barre" behind the nut when I play open chords, just to keep my fingers honest an...

Re: Barre Concern

I think I answered my own question. How cool is that!? Instead of fighting to play barre chords up past 7th or 8th on the acoustic, why not use a root 5? A# = X13331 B = X24442 C = X35553 I think I'm going to try this to see how the chord changes are and how it sounds. Nothing ventured, n...

Re: Practice "guitar" for work?

Thanks for the suggestions. Looks like I have at least a few options. I may lean towards the Shredneck because it's cheap, and I really don't need much if anything in the way of sound (and I can probably keep it out of sight better -- in this economy, any slight indication that you might be doing so...

Help

(I seem to be getting into the habit of being the first poster here...) I was reading through this lesson (Easy #35, haven't actually played it yet), and something struck me at this point, concerning the intro: As we've been discussing, the hardest part about playing this is going to be making the c...

Re: Practice "guitar" for work?

How about the Shredneck? I am seriously thinking about buying one.... I thought about buying an old kids guitar at a yard sale and converting it, but I don't think I could do a good enough job for the $. http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/ ... sku=360704 Hmm, now that might be just the thing. W...

Practice "guitar" for work?

I'm an earlybird and usually get to work 2-3 hours before anyone else. Sometimes I install software, and find myself sitting around by myself waiting long periods for the installation to finish. I'm thinking this would be an excellent time to practice guitar, but I'm not going to take my real guitar...

Re: Barre Concern

They can't be that much shorter than mine. My index finger isn't even three inches from webbing to tip. Is that really short? I've always thought I had long, skinny fingers, but my index finger runs barely 2.5 inches from webbing to tip. I really don't have much room to maneuver for a full barre. F...

Re: Transposing Keys

When GL capoes Sundown @ the 2nd fret and plays Emaj shape, if uncapoed and barred, that would be F#maj?
It is F#maj whether he capoes or barres (no difference between the 2) the Emaj shape at fret 2. Other than this slight ambiguity, I think your post is correct.

Re: Driver Eight

Thanks, I can manage that, though it isn't a breeze (I have better luck doing a mini-barre with middle finger on 7 to form the full A-shape, but have to use both middle and ring to make the Sus2 without muting the 2nd string). Of course, now I need to work on moving the surrounding bars (at least) u...

Driver Eight

(Shocked that there is no topic for this song yet...) Just a quick question about the 4th line of the bridge (which sound I love, btw). I always try to make even my open chords work with 3 fingers (middle, ring, pinky) so I can move the sequence up and down with a barre to fit any key. But I'm findi...

Re: Songs played @ higher frets

Another reason to do this is for flexibility. If you know just a few barre chord shapes, you can play in any key just by moving up and down the neck -- without having to memorize dozens of specific shapes. Need to play a song in F major? Put your barre on fret 5 and play the I (F major) using the C ...

Re: F maj chord opinion

I (almost) always play the full barre. It sounds better to me, and most of the chords I play are barre chords, so the transition is usually easier as well. Maybe I'm a bit blunt in the ears (no finesse knowing when to use a partial voicing instead), but I'll give myself some slack since I'm still a ...

Re: I need a volunteer from the audience

I have the same "meat" problem as kenrogers, but I've been dogged in trying to get barre chords down, because I see them as the gateway to playing any chord anywhere on the fretboard. I can barre E to Am pretty well  and not too bad at E to C, but the A & D are very tough, and I can't barre th...
