Re: Some Nights You Just Don't Have It

I find playing with others or an audience makes stuff harder. I too typically play in the basement by myself or along with youtube. When all of a sudden there is six, ten or forty people watching or playing along I often lose a significant portion of my skills. Even a simple Jam with a friend I can ...

Re: How to learn Harmonica

Well it has been a week and I am still enjoying the harps. Just a quick questions: What exactly is Second Position? Or should I say where is second position? Am I correct in saying that on a C harmonica second position is G? If so that is Blow on the third hole right. I understand that this is a blu...

Re: How to learn Harmonica

I got a book and discovered harmonica tabs (who knew they existed). I spent an hour last night playing along with Blowing in the Wind and Heart of Gold. Oh and the Harvest Moon solo (I love that song). I am happy for 2 days of effort so far. I find I like th blues harp better than the Pro Harp. It m...

Re: How to learn Harmonica

Thanks for the info. I am going to check out the music store for a book ASAP. I will look at the David Gage site as well. I like the harmonica for guitar players idea a lot.

How to learn Harmonica

I just bought a harmonica. I have no experience with one but I would like to play some Neil Young, Bob Dylan type stuff to start. I have not found any great websites for lessons yet. Does anyone recommend any web sites. There is some stuff on YouTube I have started to watch but I guess I am looking ...

Can you see it? It might be stripped. I don't know if you can fix this or not though.

Re: Right-angle cables with Telecasters?

I have no suggestions for you, sorry. I have only ever used the straight variety of cords. I do think they polk out a long way though and often thought a right angle one would be nice. Now those guitars with the plug right on the front I always think look absolutley goofy without the right angle typ...

Re: Learning/Remembering New songs

i find it's easier to remember a song if i learn the song by ear. I have recently started trying to transcribe songs and develop my ear a little bit. It is frustrating sometimes but the few songs I have worked on seem to stick in my head better than the ones I just found the chords/Tab for online. ...

Re: Learning/Remembering New songs

Well it is good to see I am in good company! Coincidentally, Sundown and Heart of Gold were two of my go to songs as well for a long time. If weren't for the 700miles or so we could have a very short impromptu Jam  Currenlty my little brain is holding onto Harvest Moon,Wagonwheel and Molly's C...

Learning/Remembering New songs

I learn and can play a lot of songs. I have to follow along with the chords/lyrics I print out for just about all of them though. I have been playing for about 3 years and I feel I am progressing quite well. The problem is if someone asks me to play a song there are only a couple I can play without ...

Re: Lessons to jam not to become a musician

I think there is no better option than to get a teacher to help you with the physical side of playing. Posture, finger position wrist etc are important basics. Even if you only go to a teacher for a couple of months in the beginning. I feel a lot of the challenge in guitar is physical as well as men...

Re: Into the TELEsphere! - now w/ pix

Nice guitar, I know because I have one. I didn't do any mods though. I have had mine for a year now and it has been perfectly reliable. I did shield it with copper tape though and it reduced a little of the single coil hum, well maybe. some days I think I would rather have smaller frets but eh who k...

Re: Lessons to jam not to become a musician

Great advice here. I started guitar 3 years ago with similar aspirations. Other than actually remembering the songs I learn and transcribing by ear (my last great goal) I have learned more than I expected I would. I started at the ripe old age of 38. After my first month of lessons I could not belie...
