Re: My personal Christmas present

Off the original topic, but you guys brought it up...What's that old saying? Something along the lines of owners don't pick cats, cats choose their owners. :D In my experience with cats the younger ones always torment the older ones. Part of it I think is just the younger cats wanting to play more t...

Acoustic Guitar - Yamaha APX500

So after Christmas, I have a bit of cash and a bit of GAS. I've been planning on buying an acoustic guitar for awhile now for various reasons. The main ones being that I don't have an acoustic currently, and I don't always want to plug my electric into my amp when practicing but I feel like I'm play...

Re: Buying a beginners' guitar

Try not to go in on a Saturday - if you can cop an hour or so off work during lunch or something, a weekday is much much quieter, especially with the kids back in school. There is such a night and day different between Saturdays and week-days. Even if you go after work on a week-day it seems better...

Re: Question for the teachers

Well unfortunately, you're only getting replies from non-teachers so far; but, I just wanted to throw this out there. I think that this would be one of my requirements in a teacher if I had one. After all you are paying for these lessons right? I assume this isn't the teacher of a HS/College/g...

Re: Losing the "fire"

I'm in the same place myself right now. In fact, I don't think I've picked the guitar up in almost a week.

I wanted to thank everyone who gave advice here! Even though I didn't ask the question, I've been thinking about this myself lately and the suggestions are very helpful.

Re: Good Way to Practice Chord Changes

I totally agree. I had a nice little "breakthrough" with something I've been playing at no tempo for way too long last night all because I finally started using the metronome with it. I should have known better as I've also noticed the do it until its "almost perfect" and then increase the te...

Re: String change on a electric with a tremolo

I would think it is not okay to put the ball end of the string up on the tuning peg for your strat; at least if it is anything like my stratocopy. The ball end should go slightly into the body of the guitar at the bottom. I found the following video most useful when changing the strings on my guitar...

That had me rolling!

I recently tried playing a few things on my brother-in-law's acoustic and your comment instantly made me think of that experience.

Re: Buzzing low E and A string

A lot of people suggest changing one string at a time when replacing the strings. This keeps tension on the neck which should keep it from going out of place when changing the strings. The other thing I can think of is if you were changing the thickness of the strings. If you change the thickness of...

Re: BLUES MUSIC LEGENDS!

Amazon will typically have some music on sale where you can get the entire album on sale for a couple dollars, but its only good for a day or two. I recently got a whole compilation of Mozart music from them for like $3. The quality is good, something like 256 VBR. Plus, I believe all of Amazon's mu...

Re: question about fuzz

This is kind of a shot in the dark as I'm fairly new to the guitar. However, I have about 10 years experience with speakers/amps, etc. (although strictly as a hobby). Common sense says, with any amp/speaker if its turned up to high and you're distorting it, you will eventually destroy it. However, f...

Re: Silly Amp Question

Not sure about Olive Garden. I'm not completely familiar with Syracuse, I just looked up GC's in the area and google'd directions from the dress shop to there. I can say that its on Rt. 5, Best Buy is across the street and down the road a tad, and there is a mall further down the road - Shopping Tow...

Re: Silly Amp Question

Well hopefully everyone doesn't yell at me for going against some of what I've said here... I was at the good ol' Guitar Center today in Syracuse, NY instead of my home location as my wife needed to help pick out bridesmaid dresses for a wedding she's in. They had the Roland Micro Cube on sale...

Re: Silly Amp Question

Well to correct one point - if I go with the Cube 30 or what seemed to be about the equivalent Vox (VT30) I'm more in the $250-$300 price range, so thats about half way between my original budget and what corbind suggested. I'm willing to bump up the budget a little if it means getting something tha...
