Re: Which pick?

Wow...I've been offline for a couple of days, and was pleasantly surprised with all the responses...I appreciate all the input from you guys. I figured I'd spend some hours using the Fender Medium for strumming and see how it goes, so that's what I did last night....I'm fortunate enough to have an o...

Which pick?

So I've gotten in the habit of using a soft pick for playing chords, and a medium when practicing lead/solos. Now I'm starting to play some songs where I'm playing both the chords and the solos....but using the medium pick for rythm just feels wierd, and using the soft one for solos feels sluggish. ...

Re: Starting over .. again

I may not be the best person to answer this, as I've only been playing for a year or so. What I can tell you is that the internet, and this site specifically have been a huge help to me, along with my local library. I've found a lot of guitar instruction books with CD's included and I've checked out...

Re: Still hard to hit all the notes!

Thanks, Alan. Perhaps I'm a little insecure about my playing since I have no one to play with, so no basis for comparison. Last night after posting I decided to go back to using Justin's The Finger Gym, something I haven't done in a couple of months and it showed. I guess playing the same old songs ...

Still hard to hit all the notes!

I've been playing for about 11 months now, self taught, and no one else to play with. I'm happy with my progress, and get in 1-2 hours of practice at least 5 days a week. I use "Blues You Can Use" and a few other similar self help books to practice with. What frustrates me is that I still have a har...

Re: I really didn't want to do this - ask to transcribe

On the subject of transcribing....but first let me apologize for A) changing the subject slightly, and B) telling you something you may already know. While trying to transcribe a few riffs in Crystal Blue Persuasion, I discovered that Windows Media Player can slow down an MP3 to half speed or even s...

Re: Strumming While Standing

Shortened the strap for last night's practice and it was much improved. Not as smooth as playing while sitting but there's now light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks, guys....

Re: Strumming While Standing

You're right about that....I do wear it lower than when in the seated position. And although it's not hangin' rock star low, I have to admit if not for fearing of looking like a geek I'd be wearing it higher. WTH, no one can see me and I still worry about how I look.

Thanks for the advice.

Re: Strumming While Standing

Thanks, cnev....as long as I know that it's not just me doing something weird. Now I can get to working it out.

Thanks,

Strumming While Standing

I've been playing about 9 months now and most of my time I play sitting. I do try to get at least an hour or so a week in playing while standing. I've noticed my strumming is much poorer when I stand although when playing lead it seems to be about even. I'm kinda stumped as to why that is, I can't s...

Re: Looking for a great blues book

I've looked at quite a few online......if you go to Amazon you can look at customer reviews for blues books and that can be very helpful. Using that method led me to Hal Leonard's Blues Guitar by Greg Koch. It has a little bit of everything and about 20 blues songs in it. I don't know if this is a l...
