Guitar setting - loud or quiet

I have read a few of the comments in this forum which recommend you turn the volume on your guitar high when using pedals and FX. I have never been satisfied with the FX I have bought, usually finding only one or at most two that I can use. Even the BOSS effects on the BR-8 d sounded far too muddy t...

Thanks for the encouragement, I knew I could rely on my friends here at guitarnoise... Like ShadowRaptor I often find the words a let down and think many songs sound better if you don't know the 'real' words. Strange also that one day your strumming sounds good and the next it sounds awful. I don't ...

Need to overcome a drop in enthusiasm

Like many before me, there seems to be a time when enthusiasm for playing gets low, and I've reached that. Any help on getting back to really enjoying playing would be appreciated. Been a while since I posted on this forum. With all the advice given I finally got a teacher, and after hearing me play...

Is there a forum to help?

I still think it is played hopelessly fast for an 'easy' song. I agree that you need to be able to do it at some point (though my fingers don't agree yet!!) :P

F5 G5

In the song You Really Got Me, I have two books for beginners that show the chords as three stringed F5 G5 G5 F5 G5 This is played quite for (at least for a beginner) and I have never ben able to do it well - if I do get the speed right the strings squeak like mad. I started with a teacher about a m...

I have a 15 month old toddler, so my guitar is on a wall hanger which was suggested in an earlier post. Works well for me, like most other people if it were in a case I would not play it as often.

I live in the Philippines where it gets very hot, but so far no problems.

I love my Steinberger. Until I got my new Strat I used it as my main guitar even when not traveling.

Cost about $300, easy to take on the plane (fits in the overhead locker) and easy to carry around, quite tough too.

Nick - I might take you up on that if you were serious..

I bought a Fender last time I was in New York - but the tube amp sounds a good idea - and $500 about right.

Now how much does it weigh and what will the airline charge me to take is luggage?

Virginia - but if I wanted to get something from Musician's Friend or similar I could have it delivered to the Virginia office and collect it - otherwise I would visit the shops in Virginia.

What would anyone else pick if they could have just one last spending binge?

Job problems - on more US visit

On the work front, things are getting little sticky. I live in the Philippines and my bosses have 'requested' I visit them in the US for a 'talk'. We have been seeing things differently for some time so this may be my last visit to the US. Given the problem of getting equipment in the Philippines, e...

Dave T I finished book 1 then used book 2 just for ideas of different songs. I still go back and try different strumming and fingerpicking songs like Sailing and Streets of London from time to time. I needed to advance some more before moving to book 2 so I deviated and used some lessons from the in...

I agree with Chris (also started in my late 50s). You will use the G and C chords so much in your playing I would guess that any fingering will seem easy before too long.
