Wow... back after 6 years...

I even forgot I had joined this forum in 2011.
Anywho, I'm still a beginner so no surprise there but can play few simple songs. ;)
It's a long and slow journey but I'm not in a race with anyone, well except the time itself.

Re: Ovation Guitar in Denver

Denver is really horribly dry.
My face and lips are cracking since I moved here from Dallas.
Also, I need to drink more water here. :?
So, I guess any solid top will suffer without a humidifier here whether Ovation or Martin or Yammies.

Re: Got another guitar but strings are buzzing...

I changed the strings but that 5th string was still buzzing little bit in some frets.
I sold the guitar and got my money back.
I'm good with F335 for now. :)
Thanks for all suggestions.

Re: Lessons to jam not to become a musician

Great posts guys! Few points I want to summarize from all the posts: 1. Take a break: I also experienced that after taking a break, few moves are better than when practicing continuously. 2. Practice makes permanent is another great comment. 3. Posture: I noticed my left hand sometimes is close to b...

Re: Got another guitar but strings are buzzing...

Joe, I'll check if the frets are okay. BTW, I went to GC today and got Ernie Ball strings for $6. I played a FG700s in the store and it sounds perfect, no buzzing. I noticed that the neck is slightly concave in that guitar. My guitar's neck seems straight. I'll play with the truss rod little more an...

Re: Got another guitar but strings are buzzing...

rparker, Thanks for comment. yes I did look left/right, from up and from down, the neck looks straight. Slow jamming is okay and open fret is fine as well. But when pressing on 2-4 frets, little more pick on 5th string buzzes. What kind of strings are recommended? I searched and some mentioned Marti...

Re: Got another guitar but strings are buzzing...

Thanks for comment s1120. Neck does not seem twisted. When I press 12th or 14th fret, there is no gap between the string and fret in the neck. There's supposed to be small gap. The neck needs to be little bit concave for that. I turned the truss rod to left little more. Let's see what it does in a d...

Re: Got another guitar but strings are buzzing...

After adding 3 shims of business card, it's much better.
Still the 5th string still buzzes when pressed on 2nd, 3rd and 4th frets.
Other strings are okay. May be time for new saddle and strings... :?:

Re: Got another guitar but strings are buzzing...

Thanks for the link rparker.
I'll go over that and see what can be done on this guitar. :)
I don't think the guitar's neck is bad since it's new.

Re: Got another guitar but strings are buzzing...

Okay, I got it. I know a credit card that I want to cut ... too high interest rate. :) Or has it to be a paper business card instead of plastic card? :? I'll try to get the shim angled so it lifts little more on the bass side. Since the only thing I need to cut is a credit card, I can try again if f...

Re: Got another guitar but strings are buzzing...

Thanks for replies guys! It could be me as well but I don't get buzzing on the F335 unless I really hit the low strings hard. The F335 has noticeably larger gap between the strings and the fingerboard at 12th fret compared to this FG700s. Is 'Shim' something I can make or something guitar stores sel...

Re: Lessons to jam not to become a musician

Practice makes perfect... Only if you do it right... because practice doesn't make perfect - practice makes permanent . Only perfect practice makes perfect :) Seriously - use your practice time to get it RIGHT, no matter how slowly you have to play in order to do it. The real purpose of practicing ...

Re: Got another guitar but strings are buzzing...

Alan,
Yes, no individual adjustment.
It's one piece for all.
Could you explain more on card shimmy?
I'm not familiar on what to use.
Also, I thought bridge is not movable. Did you mean to take the saddle out?
Thank you
