Re: Thumb pain

It sounds to me like you are Likely Gripping your Guitar too hard which in turn will cause not only Pain but Permanent Damage to your Hand and Arm. You should only use the Thumb to Hold your Guitar from moving backward when you Fret a Note or Chord. Apply Just Enough Pressure to the String to Sound...

Re: Arpeggios

You can use arpeggios in solos, but their most common use is in accompaniment. Listen to "Nobody Hurts" by REM - the accompaniment under everything except the middle section is arpeggios of D, G, Em and A. I appreciate you taking the time to respond I have a better understanding thanks to you. Can ...

Learning the scales

I'm starting to teach myself the major scale and the minor pentatonic scale, do you guys have any tips? And I read that after both scales up and down backwards and forwards would I move on to chord progression?

Re: E major

Put your finger on the string so it's coming down as close as possible to vertical. That point of contact will be near where the nail meets the flesh but not at the point where the string can get in under the nail. I will keep this in mind I appreciate you taking the time to respond and answer my q...

Re: E major

1 - Where is your finger in the fret space? The fact that it's just one string suggests your finger is too close to the first fret and needs to come forwards 2 - How hard are you pressing down? It might just need a little more oomph It's as close to the next fret as possible without messing up the ...

Re: Sitting or standing?

You should practise standing as much as sitting; you're unlikely to be sat on stage playing an electric, but your also unlikely to be standing if you're in the orchestra pit for a musical. You're hitting E strings when you're playing E - I'm not sure that's a problem. However, if you're hitting mor...

Sitting or standing?

Should I be spending my time sitting when I practice or standing? I have an electric guitar and I ask because when I try to strum e major I find my self hitting the both e strings, could sitting be effecting my playing posture?

Plateauing

Sup guys I feel myself getting stagnant in my routine. I started playing 6 months ago and I find myself just playing the same thing over and over. I bought a book and I've been moving through it but I think what's holding me back is the fact that I can't read music. What do you guys think? I'm also ...
