Re: Martin factory behind the scenes tour

The price at the factory is map. This is likely due to the agreement they have with dealers. All sales are attributed to a dealer and since that dealer had no say in the deal it would be rather unfair to negotiate less at the factory cutting the dealer margin. Why not negotiate a deal direct with th...

Re: Martin factory behind the scenes tour

OK, I wanted to check back in and say the tour was very cool. we toured the wood saw mill and prep areas then through the entire build area. The place has that great earthy Mahogany smell. Very woody but not like your pine smell wood shop. There is a lot of machine use from CNC machines for the neck...

Re: I can't play guitar

I just had my guitar instructor show me how he does the A chord with just his pointer finger His finger end flexes back enough he can bar the three strings with the one finger and still leave the the upper E ring. My finger doesn't do that but what I do for A is stack my fingers as 213 instead of 12...

Re: Is it too late?

I hope not as I have kicked around music all my life but really just started learning an instrument in earnest at 61. Please don't tell me 24 is too late.

Martin factory behind the scenes tour

I have arranged to tour the Martin factory Friday. It's their behind the scenes, more private tour they do. Anyone done this? Anything I need to be sure to do or avoid while ther (other than credit overload)? Being a new guitarist I am not aware if I am a "Martin" guy, a "Taylor" guy, a "Larrivee" d...

Re: Old dude with a stringed noisemaker

Steve, So far I've been putting half an hour to an hour a day mixing just scales and chord progressions to beat with learning some simple songs (hey joe, brown eyed girl, teach your children, house of rising sun...) fingers are tender for sure but it's hard to put it down right now. I would love to ...

Re: Begginer looking to purchase a guitar.

I hope someone with a LOT more experience answers. I am pretty new but what helped me past all the salesmanship was I went to guitar shops and had them play what they had in my budget. Then I handled each in my own crude way. The one I bought wasnt the one I thought I wanted once I heard them. YMMV ...

Re: Old dude with a stringed noisemaker

Funny, actually the wife wanders on while I practice. I think she likes knowing where I am. Kind of like putting a bell on my collar.

Old dude with a stringed noisemaker

Hello, I am new to the forum and to guitar. All my moms best attempts to teach me piano, organ, playing sax in school, later hammered dulcimer and now guitar....master of none, plinker on any and all. At my now more senior years I would like to actually become proficient at an instrument and so here...
