Re: Year 11 Wk 15 Karen and The Rain

Love it, Celt. As I do most of your work. I really can't see anything I would change. I love the chorus. It very poetically sums up what I've tried to teach my own kids.

Re: Y10W52 The Apocalypse came yesterday

This reads well to me, although I thought it was a bit odd that you repeated verses. Not that it's wrong, just that I used to use a very formulaic approach, I'd repeat choruses, but I didn't repeat verses. But it could work out very well. David, when you say "more direct and less passive", are you t...

Re: 10/52 The Apocalyptic Polka

Can't speak to the technical musical aspects of the song, -- it's been a LONG time since I studied theory. And if you ever found my piano teacher, (assuming she's still alive) she'd tell you that I never really studied it in the first place. More importantly, -- this was a fun read. Sometimes sillin...

Re: End Of The World

Hey Vic, I really like the song, -- and I'm partial to the "this side of life" suggestion. Also, I''m having a very similar year. I've had two doctors that wanted to put me on depression meds. I didn't take them. I've been thinking maybe I should, but reading your post makes me glad I made the choic...

Re: Y10 wk41 -- Double D

I've been away from playing for as long as I've been away from writing. So it's going to be quite a while before I'm ready to record anything.

Re: Y10 wk41 -- Double D

James, I just typed out a very lengthy response to your feedback, attempting to address each item. My squirrely laptop ditched it. (I hate this laptop, but right now, it's the only computer I have.) Anyways, after working through each of your questions, --you may be right about needing something to ...

Re: Y10 wk41 -- Double D

John, Andy,

Thanks for the input. I'll keep it in mind as I think I am going to attempt a couple / few re-writes of this and see if I can get it where I want it.

Best,

Re: Y10 wk41 -- Double D

All good thoughts, James. Thanks for the feedback. I was actually trying to capture the feeling of an actual diner in my town, called the Double-T. I'm pretty sure I missed the mark, as I said, I just wanted to get *something* posted. I wasn't really happy with it either. What I am happy with is the...

Y10 wk41 -- Double D

Well, -- not real happy with this, but I wanted to submit SOMETHING, even if it's not good. That's pretty much the nature of practicing. Double-D Let's meet up at the Double-D get a grilled cheese sandwich and a glass of tea, Or maybe a couple of burgers and a shot of scotch. We can swap stories all...

Re: Year 10 Wk 41 Reservoir Road

Hey John, I'm not sure I'm real comfy with the amount of repetition of "Reservoir Road". Although that could easily change (and I suspect it probably would) if I heard it. Intonation, inflection, music, -- it's all hard to convey in text. I loved the line about her eyes more beautiful than leaves in...

Also meant to mention, -- I love the Outro. I've experienced that personally, and I'm sure many of your listeners will have also. So it definitely resonates.

Re: Y10 W41 - Home Again

I REALLY like the feeling of this. I concur with MrEWorm's comments. Sometimes we throw in words just to get the rhythm right in our head, but over a few re-writes, you find you can pare them down a bit. That was hard for me to learn, and still challenging. The sentiment, the feeling, the emotion of...

Re: SSG Year 10 Week 41

Whoa... we get points now? I'm gonna have to work harder at this. So, if I write a song about 3rd stool from the right at the Double T on Rt. 40 in Joppatown, MD. I could potentially win?

I don't know if he's making a living at it. I think he still has his day job. But based on the FB posts I see, he is playing various venues regularly in the Dallas / Fort Worth area.
