Every note played in the soloing of Blue Sky is from the E major scale, even when they bend strings(the bend starts and ends on a note from the E major scale). The chords are mostly E,A,&B with an occassional D, B7sus4,G#m7,&C#m which all are built off of E major tones except for the D note in the D...

When I first started I played .009's and but now I play much heavier strings. After trying many brands of strings, I found GHS boomer for electric and Martin for acoustic, to be the best for me. Practice daily, it's better to practice 1-2hrs a day than it is to practice once a week for 12hrs. The more the better, but the quality of practicing is more important than the quantity.

I always use a wound G on my acoustic and hollow body electric guitars, my solid body guitar I use an unwound G. The wound G takes a little getting use to but after a while there is no differance.

It sounds like your making progress, but if you want to prove it to yourself than try this: once a month( or once every two months) record a song or to that you know. As time goes by listen to the recordings, you'll be amazed on how well your technique has improved.

My first guitar was a Memphis "Les Paul copy", I paid $125. It had good action which made it easy to learn on, and it didn't even sound that bad.

When I teach teach, the proper basics come first no matter what the age level is,bad habbits become hard to break and slow down the learning process. For younger students I found this works well. I don't know how long the class is, but break it down (say it's 45min) use the first 30min to teach them...
