Re: Purchasing my first "Expensive" guitar. Need advice on alternatives
I'm probably the wrong one to answer... I once demo'd a Gretsch Brian Setzer through a Carr Rambler and immediately got the Gretsch bug. Wonderful tone! So now I have a Power Jet, though I put TV Jones Classic pickups in it for a more traditional filter'tron sound. Though I play my Strat and Tele mo...

Re: Martin factory behind the scenes tour
Very cool; thanks for sharing! I knew a guy who did that tour and ended up buying a D-28 there. I don't think he got the hat though.
Now you need to head a little east in MD and see the PRS factory.

Re: Footswitch Cable
Hey Jim, see if the original was a TRS (aka stereo or balanced) cable. I'm looking at a picture of a Vox footswitch and it seems they use TRS cables for theirs, so maybe yours needs to be too. Re: Unknown Humbucker Wiring
I'm not 100% sure on the terminology, but I believe the convention is to say each individual coil has start and finish, while only one of those start leads will be called 'hot' for the overall pickup. Usually the north one. I'm just basing this on diagrams I've seen over the years. You probably know...

Re: Should I get an acoustic amp?
Acoustic amp is basically a small portable PA. Some do add coloration, and some even have tubes, but most as you said are very clean. It's a bit redundant if you already have a PA, but if you want the smaller size and portability, go for it. Genz Benz has some nice ones with 10" speakers. Also, a po...

Very nice, esp. in black. At first I thought it was a Yamaha ... looks similar to one of theirs.
And yes, if your son is going acoustic, you are 100% obligated to do the same!

Re: Hum from PA connections
Good point, Diceman. I've seen people snap off the ground prong on their power cables! Not safe!

Re: Hum from PA connections
I disagree; if the drum kit and PA are each providing a path to ground and the connection between them is causing a hum-inducing loop, then the ground lift button on a DI box is there for exactly this reason.Diceman wrote: Do NOT lift the ground !!!

Congrats C. Glad it has worked out for you, though your road was a bit bumpy! Now you've got forward momentum - go get those gigs!

Re: Adjustable Poles on Some Pickups
I did that (lower pups, raise screws) with the GFS Memphis pups I had in my semi-hollow PRS-SE. Got the Gretschy vibe I wanted at the time, and there was a notable increase in clarity. I also repaired an old Les Paul for a friend; he had the bridge mini-humbucker set up that way, but it was just wro...

Re: Harmonic Converger - Good Buy or Not?
Good alternative: Sonic Stomp, about $60 used.
Better alternative: used Sonic Stomp + parametric EQ - your Boss should have one built in. With the EQ you can notch out the 'fizz' frequency (around 5khz.)

Re: Got a new amp - GK MB210
Very nice!
I was going to get one of the MB heads when they first came out ... but they didn't come out! Lots of production delays. Ended up with a used Genz Benz, which I love, but GK is awesome too. (Oh, I have a GK 112 Neo cab.

Re: pup change question
Mixing active and passive pups can be done, but it requires a little bit of extra work. More than just rerouting a ground wire, anyway. From EMG's site: Can I mix EMG's with passive pickups? It is possible to mix EMG's with passive pickups. There are three possible wiring configurations; one is bett...
