Re: Fingerpicking/Travis Book suggestions

Cool! I just ordered 3 books of Amazon:
1. Beyond basics
2. The Art of Solo Fingerpicking
3. Beginning Fingerstyle Blues

That should last me for this winter and maybe next
Thanx for the help Nuno

Re: Fingerpicking/Travis Book suggestions

Hey Nino thanx for the recommendations. I will check those out next week when I am in the city. My store may not have them but can order. Will also check out Amazon. Anybody else? As I said (or should have) a very basic book is really what I'm after as I find it very difficult at this stage looking ...

Fingerpicking/Travis Book suggestions

So in a recent thread I asked about switching to fingerstyle from flatpicking. I had a few suggestions but was wondering if anyone had any experience with a GOOD book for the beginning fingerstyle guitarist. I am soon going to be away from my computer for awhile and would like to buy a hard copy of ...

Re: Switch from flatpick to fingerstyle HELP!

Thanx for the additional inputs. Next time I am to the city will look at the Hal L lesson book. I also really like the Stones "Love in Vain" and have the chord sequence down OK. That will give me something else besides HouseOTRS to work on. Later

Re: Switch from flatpick to fingerstyle HELP!

Thanx all! The only thing I'm missing now is how to become an instant success. I was thinking there would be some hard work involved. Forgot about Davids fingerstyle stuff, will start there. And thanx about the go slow and practice precision reminder. That is always one of my stumbling blocks (patie...

Switch from flatpick to fingerstyle HELP!

So I have been playing for about 5 to 6 years mostly flatpicking. Everytime I hear a fingerstyle /fingerpicking player I wish that I could do that. It sounds so complete on its own and a terrific way to accompany singing. I try a while but give up as the coordination required seems to be very hard t...

Re: Leonard Cohen - Suzanne

Really enjoyed that. One of my favourite songs BTW. Kind of wish you would cut the ending re the voice hurts tho.sort of spoiled the overall effect.Your voice kind of reminded me of a Cohen Dylan cross. Good Job

Re: Need Critique Folks!!

Thanx very much folks. It helps to get some perspective from people not quite so close to the situation, and my wife doesn't count here. I realise that confidence is a major issue as is hitting notes you can hear in your head but can't duplicate for the present time. I kind of wonder how hard it is ...

Thanx all I appreciate your input. Will try to find a harmless looking file that won't do more damage than good and give it a try.

Need Critique Folks!!

So I posted Ghost Riders in The Sky a couple weeks ago, here is my attempt at Pancho and Lefty by Townes Van Zandt (only my 3rd song sung so far).As I said before the last time I sang out loud was 1954. Please give a listen and give me some advice! My bandmates tell me it is brutal done in a monoton...

Re: Filing Sharp Fret Ends

Gnease thanx for the reply. Looks like I will try get some proper files before tackling this job. I did see on one site where taping the fretboard was recommended and I am guessing with patience that I can't screw up too badly. As I said the guitar sounds cool but just a tad uncomfortable to play.

Filing Sharp Fret Ends

Has anyone got any suggestions or is it really the job of a luthier as many guitar etup sites suggest. Has anyone here done this procedure and were you happy with the results? I have one of those squier 51's that everyone needed to own awhile ago and like the tones I get from it but a few of the fre...

Re: Guitar Hangers

These are the ones I use. They are great so far and I have them anchored to the wall studs, 16" centres seem to be fine. Could not use floor stands for 10 axes but use a couple for the guitars I am using at the time.

Re: Needing Help!

Thanx to both of you! That helps my confidence end of things anyway. I guess it's like a lot of other stuff, guitar included (practice helps a bunch) I guess what is needed is to learn some lyrics and go to it, although there ain't much room here in the closet! Anybody else got any input that would ...
