Re: When?

If your using standard non coated strings then I would recommend approx every 4 weeks. For beginners or those who are terrified at the thought of having to change strings I would highly recommend investing in coated strings such as EXP,Elixirs or Stainless Steel electric Strings as they really do la...

Re: Does your guitar lead (wire) actually matter?

As most have said before the quality of the construction is what you should pay for not so much the materials. I have been using the same two 18 ft cables I bought seven years ago which I paid £20 each for.Not cheap but not the most expensive by a long way.Have gigged weekly and they've been walked...

Hand Held Recorders

Hi Guys, My son has just gone off to uni and taken his Toneport with him so I'm looking for a replacement recording device.I really only ever used the Toneport for recording acoustic guitar and vocals with a condenser mic.Although I got great results by recording this way it was a bit of a pain gett...

Re: Using Multi-Effects pedal live

I use the Boss ME-50.This has 3 pedals and therefore 3 selectable presets at your disposal.I use this with a two channel amp which gives me a clean channel and overdrive channel or boost for solos when using the multi fx.Another greta feature of the ME-50 is that you can use each of the 3 pedals as ...

medium jumbo frets and intonation.

Re: The death of local ma & pa music stores.

Just to give my take on the Uk situation.I buy almost all of my gear on-line, guitars, strings, cables even plectrums purely because of the cost. To give you an example my son wanted a Zakk Wylde Epi Les Paul a couple of years ago.The cheapest I could get it for locally was £700.I bought one on-line ...

string gauge question

Hi Guys, I have always used 9-42 or more recently 9-46 Hybrid guage strings on my Les Paul .I was looking for some alternatives and noticed that some signature sets such as the GHS Dave Gilmore and Eric Johnson sets have different guages for Fender and Gibson guitars.(Strats and LP's?) I assume that...

Re: how to get a distorted guitar to cut through the mix??

It's funny, I'm following a thread on talkbass.com about how to get bass guitars to cut through all the distorted guitars in the mix. :D I'm sure on a drumming site, someone is asking how to get the drums to cut through the mix. Isn't it sad in a way that various players want to "cut through the mi...

Re: Boss ME-50 vs Vox Tonelab St

Hi , Dont know about the Vox but I have a ME-50 I its a great peice of kit.It really depends on what you want it for.Theres more than enough effects to keep anyone happy and the individual pedal layout is great. The quality of the Boss effects as you would imagine are top notch. The majority of them a...

Re: how to get a distorted guitar to cut through the mix??

Hi Alman, Not sure if you have had any success yet but I have a very similar set up to you. I have a Laney VC30 and ME-50.I stopped using the Tubescreamer setting a few weeks ago because of the same problem you are having. Its great for a solo boost or at high volumes but sounds a bit lifeless at low...
