"Play with Fire" (original lesson?)

I was thinking the original version of the Easy Songs for Beginners lesson would be handy, but it doesn't seem to be archived. Also, I had no luck searching the forum for a previous thread about it because even the advanced search, with or without quotation marks, keeps saying something about "words...

Re: Screw on my neck pickup is stippred

If the screw itself is stripped, it shouldn't have any "attachment" to the hole, and you might be able to lift it out with a magnet. Or maybe try unscrewing it, while prying up gently under the head of the screw. That sometimes helps when trying to lift stubborn screws out for replacement. Unless th...

Re: Effects

Well, I think it kinda goes back to the thing about "guitar tone is in the fingers as much as in the gear used." Much as I might like to really sound like Justin Hayward when singing "Nights in White Satin," I know it ain't never gonna happen. I might get "close" to the sound, but I'll never be Hayw...

Re: newbie question

^^^ Agreed. Six weeks is relatively early into the learning process. It takes time, but it will come to you if you keep practicing. Besides keeping steady rhythm, there's that thing about "Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect." In other words, don't sacrifice accuracy for sp...

Welcome to GN. You need an account on an image-hosting site like Flickr or Photobucket. Upload the image(s) to your account, and then get the link for the photo(s) from the menu on the page where the photo is. Sometimes there are several choices, but I can't recall what they are. You'll see tags lik...

I think you play EVH pretty well. Way better than I could, anyway.

Re: Strat Trem Claw Screw Problem

That one screw is a mite "kinked," ain't it? No one would ever mistake me for a luthier, but I wouldn't think filling a hole like that would have a real deleterious effect on your tone. You're basically just patching it enough to give the new screw something to anchor in. I went on Stewart-MacDonald...

Re: Guitar learning book

The Learn & Master Guitar series is on Amazon. It looks expensive, but it comes with DVDs. Reviews on it seem generally positive. I think DVDs and videos can be a "next best" way to learn, if you can't afford lessons from a local instructor. Here's another vote for justinguitar.com. It's my favorite...

Yup. But I thought only guys did that. Like when we're driving: "Columbus didn't need directions, and neither do I."

Re: Acoustic setlist help needed

Both "Fast Car" and "Landslide" should be good without vocals. I was going to suggest "Classical Gas," but I think that's solo guitar until the horns, etc. come in. How about "Harvest Moon"? It's in Drop D tuning, but might make a good instrumental. One of you could toss in the harmonics in the righ...

Re: Best Looper Pedal

I like my Ditto Looper (one of the small, one-button units), and I also have a Ditto Mic Looper. I know I haven't used either one to its full potential yet, because I'm still learning all the cool stuff that can be done with them. I also have a JamMan Solo XT, with the foot controller to kind of sim...

Re: Help powering my rig?

You have some cool pedals. You're getting on towards a Joe Bonamassa-grade board there. Amperage (often expressed as milliamps) ratings on power supplies show the maximum output of the transformer, and the rating on a pedal is usually its minimum requirement. You can send too much voltage to ...

Re: Advice for someone missing fingers

Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) and Phil Keaggy immediately came to mind as guitarists working around hand injuries. I also found out that Jerry Garcia was missing part of his right middle finger as the result of a childhood accident. Taylor Guitars had an ad in the past couple of years about a man who l...

Welcome to GN, "neighbor." (My family is originally from MA, but all but two of my siblings are now in NH. I'm the only one in Maine.)

Have fun getting back into guitar. 8)
