Start off with the pentatonic blues scale shapes, which is the minor pentatonic with a few extra "blue" notes added...

I find Snarling Dog Brain picks (nylon) or Jim Dunlop (nylon) picks easy...They don't spin around & the knurls keep them in place.

How about mandolin instead.....
The same tuning as a violin.....
You could relate more easily...
It is also backwards guitar, kinda......

I have a Jay Turser, but it seriously needs to be amplied....You could almost just use a guitar, except it does sound a bit like one thru the piezio....I call it my el cheapo reso....
