Re: Finger Lock

I have a similar problem, in reverse, Cat. The knuckle closest to the nail on my fretting pinkie sometimes locks 'straight', so when I try to hinge it to fret the note, I can't. Doesn't happen any other time but when playing guitar. Frustrating as all get out! It happens only intermittently and come...

Re: Guitar for beginners

I have to agree with Liontable. The price point you're aiming at is so low...you're better off waiting and saving your money. If you decide to go ahead now, shop in person, not online. The quality control on an item that 'inexpensive*' will vary wildly from guitar to guitar. *It's only inexpensive i...

Re: I want to sing along........(to my favourite songs)

Famous quote from Noel Coward:
'Extraordinary how potent cheap music is.'
I figure if there aren't dozens of simple pop songs/melodies you like or liked, there's something the matter with you.

Wow, what a cool space.
Was it originally a warehouse (or a barn) or something?

Re: What's Your Studio Set-up?

I have a modest setup, all digital. No amp, the guitars go into the computer (MacPro tower) though an 'antique' Tascam audio/MIDI interface, as do the mic and keyboard, for recording in Logic Express. All instrument 'voices' provided by Logic Express, except guitars, where I also use Guitar Rig for ...

Re: Restringing acoustic and string brands

Hi, subpar, Lots of good strings, it really comes down to a matter of personal preference. I have the same guitar so I thought I'd offer my 2 cents. I've tried many others, but I always end up back with Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys. Not expensive, durable and a nice warm tone without being boomy. Welc...

Re: Low Action for Jaguar

Hi, 16mm,

I'm not sure why low action is so important if your 'bad' hand is the picking one? Exploring lighter string gauges I can see, but I don't get the 'action' angle.

Re: New Copyright Battle

Thought I'd bump this thread. The landmark case passed the first hurdle. Not sure what level of 'court' and no doubt will be appealed. 'It all goes back to the 1978 amendments to the US Copyright Act. According to that law, songwriters have the right to unilaterally terminate their copyright deals w...

Re: Ambitious but rubbish, looking for playable favourites

Agree with what's posted above re. at least pecking away at what you really are drawn to. It does keep your interest up. The flipside: music you may not necessarily want to listen to can be a lot of fun to play, so keep your ears open! I've never owned a Tom Petty record, but when I got into guitar ...

Re: Painful GAS: Nomad Telecaster

Some discussion re. hardware on them here, Crow: http://www.tdpri.com/forum/telecaster-discussion-forum/171614-new-tele-option-budget-thinline.html Plenty of pix, too! Thread starts re. the Thinline model but then broadens out to the standard Teles as well. Sounds like they were also marketed as Bel...

Re: Emotion, expression, blah blah blah

Interesting discussion. A bit of a digression, but there's a seminal film experiment that explores ideas of expression (literally) but also context and audience expectation: 'Kuleshov edited together a short film in which a shot of the expressionless face of Tsarist matinee idol Ivan Mosjoukine was ...

Re: Buying a new bass for an experienced guitar player

Happy hunting, Niklas. Those T Bird basses are notorious for neck dive, so if you get a chance to play one, try to road test it with a strap, standing up. For a brief time I had an Epi EBO bass that had the same ergonomic problem (strap button on horn is a bad idea; gravity wins ). It was even uncom...

Re: What would make you feel you’re now a “Good” player?

She finishes playing, without making any mistakes. But she's done the entire thing from memory, after hearing it just once. What a tremendous gift for music - and what a terrible handicap to have! As the music gets longer and more complicated, she's going to reach a point where she won't be able to...
