Re: Learning Proper Left Hand Position

Fun post, Chris C. :) Stevie Wonder is another example of a flat finger extraordinare. My sister's classically trained and the rock 'n' roll guy with classical technique she always points to is Leon Russell. 'He would have got 100 on almost any exam!'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RnjWLVyMp...

Re: SSG10-Week12 Touch and Go collaboration with Don Hood

Your best song yet! You wouldn't be showing any partiality here now would you?  Now why the heck would you guess that? The lyrics are great. Some really odd imagery. Must confess, I have no idea what they mean. You usually having an overarching theme or narrative, but darned...

Re: SSG Y10 W13 Black Train

Cool job, Andy. I especially enjoyed the chorus (?) elements. I thought they dovetailed beautifully with the music. It brought to mind R Crumb's short animation, A Short History of America. Don't know if you've seen it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ym5n-ZZWUs They always tell lyric writers to bri...

Re: What do you think

Wow, powerful voice. Beautiful timbre to it. I could imagine her singing rock 'n' soul as well.
They can both really sing. Cool interpretation of the song. Are they an act?

Re: Etta James

Etta was fantastic. I'd Rather Go Blind is an all time fave. What a great rendering of a lyric.

Johnny Otis, the man who discovered her, died the day before.

Soundclick is great. Free, no spam, great customer support...not sure how they stay afloat, but I'm glad they're there. :)

Re: Year 10 Week 12 Never Let You Go

Thanks, Andy, that's all great advice.
No question I'm lacking in any detail or sense of place.
I was just happy to come up with something, no matter how crude, that didn't feel inhibited. It felt like I'd gotten over a big hurdle. Now to get much much better at it.

Year 10 Week 12 Never Let You Go

OK, this is jumping the gun on the assignment...but... I can't write lyrics for ka ka, It's been a huge frustration. This week 12 'hopper' of musical ideas was fantastic! Everyone's contributions gave me great jumping off points. So thank you all. Celt's is the one that really stuck. It has a jazzy ...

What a cool idea, Nick.
Here's a simple little funk riff played in Open G ( :?: ).
Doubt it's enough to hang a song on, but wanted to contribute.

Re: Google Trends Christmas Spike

Interesting post.
I tried 'guitar tab' on Trends and got the same downward movement.

Then I tried 'guitar tutorial' and got something quite different:

The only thing in common among all 3 is the big holiday spike each year!
