It's definately an aquired skill. As always, Elecktrablue has provided you with good insight and is correct in pointing you to the lessons by David Hodge here on the site. +1 Elecktra!! Some of the patterns I sometimes use to warm up are: Wish You Were Here or Good Riddance. I think the important th...

Music Theorem?

I'm sitting here with my headphones on listening to Frank Zappa (Shut Up N Play Yer Guitar) and I started to wonder what it is that draws me to this music. I mean it's not an album that is gonna be in your “Average Joe's” music collection. It is, at best, made for die hard Zappa fans and guitari...

Retaining Things You Have Learned

Dear Guitar Abby, I've been playing consistently for about 8 months or so and I'm absorbing everything like a sponge. And I'm loving it. In the process I'm being forced to learn new chords structures. I've completed three songs from Edwin McCain. (3am and I Want it All and Little Girls) I'm working ...

Thanks all for the warm welcome. As I said, once I finish paying off my gear, I'll be sure to post pics. I did play at least a dozen guitars before making my choice. I'm with you Wes, nothing wrong with the sound of a Strat. They are great guitars. Its just the tone of the LP through the Marshall re...

Is there a spot on the forum where I can insert foot into mouth? lol

Thanks racetruck but somehow, the sentence I envisioned would use adjectives like..."awsome musicians" and "great guitarists". But I think I'll need to know more than 5 chords before that is possible.

Love this site!!

Re: My New Girlfriend

Question is-- Is this overkill? Is this too much guitar for a guy like me? Nope. Sounds about right to me. Welcome to GN, Blueline. Good to have you aboard. Congrats on the new gear and enjoy. Looking forward to seeing more of you round the forums. BTW It's customary to post pics of new gear...

My New Girlfriend

Hello all. First some quick info on me- I'm 43 years old. Bought my first (and only) guitar 20+ years ago, (an Ovation acoustic/electric) learned a few chords and started a band. Since I was the only one in the band who could sing, (to some degree) I became the lead singer-front man. Was a gresat ti...

I usually try to play something different each time I practice. After going through my warm ups, scales-struming open chords, I try to play a song that I've not yet learned. After working on the new stuff, I fall back to either the songs I already know..from "Wish you were here" to "In Repair" (John...
