1) Who acted as "Pink Floyd" in The Wall - the movie? 2) Which substance freaked out Sid Barrett to the point of getting kicked outta the band? 3) Is Pink Floyd ever gonna regroup (i.e the original line-up) before they kick the bucket? Bob Geldof, LSD and no. I can't think of a question so I'll let...

Is the original "Sonny"? Yeah, this is the arrangement I've been working on though. All I'm asking is if you think there's anything about it that could be improved. The timing/rhythm could use a fair bit of work (especially on the Bm bar), but since this is a thread about chord progressions... http...

That's OK, I'm over it. I was going to send you this as a PM, but I might as well ask you here: http://www.guitarnoise.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9155 I've been working on this for a few weeks and I was wondering what you think of it. Too busy? Too lounge-y? I'm trying to improve on it, and I might ...

On the off chance that you have a 5 string, the lowest one is tuned to B.

It's very unlikely that you do, but it never hurts to help.

Thanks Nils. You've obviously seen it for it was meant to be: a simple way of visualizing the various layers and relationships that are music, not the be all and end all of music theory. Geez! I'd hate to derail this thread again, but you said it was everything multiple times ("That's all of music"...

I wrote a song the other night along similar lines, but it was more along the lines of "stop whining or kill yourself already". I'd post it here but it's not really suitable for a "family" site. The chorus is incredibly catchy but I'd have to censor about a quarter of the lines, and even then I'm no...

Write the lyrics on a piece of paper. Then listen to the song, and every time you hear a chord change make a mark on the sheet where the words are. You already have the chords and you know when they change, so get started on the actual rhythm of the song. Get the rhythm in your head any way you can....

If you're teaching someone who has never touched a guitar before it can be a bit intimidating - just remember that they don't know what to do and they're relying on YOU to show them. If anyone's going to feel intimidated it's them, so start by making them as comfortable as possible. Hopefully you kn...

Hi again argus. I actually find that I can simplify music ... all the detail you're mentioning is just that: detail. 12 story apartments blocks have detail too; no question about that. I wrote that for people who are still grappling with the notion of keys, related chords, I chords, ii chords, etc....

I didn't say you weren't allowed to visit other floors, did I? Still, I stand by what I wrote: all scales, chords, modes, double stops, keys, all are part of this 12 story block. Even the tune you mention fits into that music building, or are you suggesting that some pieces follow no rules at all? ...

Well what I mean is that tonally there are many more ways of thinking about things than as being in separate keys. You could write a melody that didn't stick to any real scale and put appropriate chords behind it that don't belong in any singular key. The chords might not really maintain their tradi...

Also, try mixing chords from the parallel minor into a progression. For instance, you have C major. C - Dm - Em - F - G - Am - Bm(b5) Then you have C minor. C - Dm(b5) - Eb - Fm - G* - Ab - Bb - C * = G or G minor - take your choice - the Gm comes from C aeolian. This opens up a lot of new sounds. Y...

I got a cruddy acoustic for my 16th birthday and didn't really bother with it for about 6 months.

Then I discovered Ween, and I learned to play by playing their songs.

Pretty boring story, but it's all true.
