I think they took it off because there were a heap of really oversized ones and it was just easier to nerf them than change them all.

Gsus4 (g-b-d)

this is G major (G, B, D) Gsus4 is actually G C D
Actually the chord he showed was a Gsus4 (same as Csus2), but he just labelled one of the notes wrong.

Re: Why is it called Bm(maj7)

One thing you can do over minor chords when they're played for a long time is move the root down by semitones to make it look like something's happening. It happens in Elvis Costello's "Veronica", with the Dm - Dm/maj7 - Dm7 - G part. The D in the Dm chord moves down by semitones until it leads to t...

Re: Name of something

So you're kind of using the G as a pedal tone? I'm not sure if there is a term for it beyond that.

Re: I just don't get it.... help

I never said it was modal music, just that you can use modes that way.

[quote author=NoteBoat link=board=theory;num=1081001708;start=15#21 date=04/11/04 at 15:14:28]There are two ways to work with this: first, you can alter the harmony so the notes work (which I think is what Argus is leading towards).  That's certainly acceptable, and leads to different progressions.[...

Found somewhere to stick it.

It's really just to show how the melody goes together with the chords. Feel free to open it up and rip it apart.

Re: Nowhere Man - Capo?

You use the chord shapes from the key of D, using the capo as an artificial nut. It's placed on the second fret, which pushes all those chords up a step.

Re: I don't know how to explain it.

I mean IV/F# as the IV of F# (B).

Did a cheap and nasty .mid version of the song in Anvil Studio, which I will upload as soon as I find somewhere to put it.

Re: Voice Leading

Heh, I've been using voice leading on keyboard without realizing it. For 12-bar in C, I use the voicings C-E-G, C-F-A, and B-D-G for my left hand because I'm too lazy to move it (plus I try to avoid parallel 5ths when possible, I don't know why I do that with the blues though but it probably involve...

I don't know how to explain it.

You just know this is going to end well. So I've been intrigued by this old David Byrne song (from about 1997). It's called "Amnesia", and it's off his "Feelings" album. If you don't know the song, get it, it's good. I'll probably put up a midi in a few days, as I'll be moving house tomorrow and won...

Re: Fitting harmony to a melody

You can basically use any chord at all that uses the note, although it normally sounds best if you stay in the one key.
