Re: whos taken lessons for a while?

I've had this exact problem with 'teachers'. At first I get all enthusiastic about the lessons and the teachers leet skillz, then as the weeks progress its clear that theres either no plan, or the plan is actually what I'd do anyway when I come across something I cant do. I've had lessons with 3 dif...

Re: Alternative tunings for Metallica

Yes, it's definitely standard tuning, as Chris mentions. If I remember correctly, the intro (the first part of it anyway) is one guitar doing a simple riff: + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + E - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - B - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - G - - - ...

Re: Just doing things really fast

I've hardly done any separate technical exercises, except learning the major scale and some chromatic Hammer-Ons and Pull-Offs which I still need to work on. What I think is most important is that you practice what you need to learn, or know is wrong, with concentration! Whether I'm learning songs o...

Re: Pink Floyd: Were Post Waters' Albums Good PF Music

Well although I'm a Floyd fan, the first album I heard was The Wall. I've branched out and took in some of DSOTM, which is also hauntingly good. I think the tensions within Floyd helped them create the music. Waters lyrics and mindset helped fuel Gilmours solos and creativity. Unfortunately the rest...

Re: Help with Guitar Noise!!!!

It sounds like you've already diagnosed the issue and are now hoping your wrong!
I'm no good with amps, effects and cables, but I'm a developer who has to diagnose things often.
I'd say its the cable!

On the off chance, make sure all electrical equipment is off and redo the test.

Re: Best self teaching guides

Between the articles, lessons and podcasts on this site and the excellent free JustinGuitar.com, you've all the free material you need! The hard part is working out what order to do things, what you want to play, and sticking with it through thick and thin, even when its 'boring' theory. JustinGuita...

Re: Need Help with Rhythm/Timing

Syme wrote:There's a metronome in the background and some notes on a line, then you just have to tap the spacebar to hit the notes. I've never really had a good sense for rhythm, but this certainly helps.
I'd much rather play a rythmn game like Guitar Hero/Rock Band/Drum mania etc. :D

Re: GnR Patience + Floyd Anybody Out There

I must be one of the few Floyd fans who play guitar that don't play 'Brick. I do play Comfortably Numb, Mother and Nobody Home from that album. The rhythm on all of them and working on the solo. I try Mother every now and then, not that its difficult, but the strumming pattern is all about feeling ...

Re: GnR Patience + Floyd Anybody Out There

I've got the Pink Floyd Jam Trax from LickLibrary to go with my other Floyd songs I've been working on. Time to get crackign on learning the 2nd solo from Comfortably Numb :) I just used tabs and my love of Pink Floyd - The Wall to learn Anybody Out There. Tabs are easy to find, and the pattern is n...

Re: GnR Patience + Floyd Anybody Out There

Both pieces done very well. Thanks a lot! I'm surprised someones finally posted a reply to these so its definitely much appreciated. Patience: Aside for the occasional awkward note it was nice to hear you not try to do an axl. He's got one of those voices that's fun to imitate just because. :twiste...

I've heard it through head phones, and all that really happens is you feel a little uncomfortable internally.

Re: Another newbie question (strumming and bpm)

I have some songs my dad had wrote and they just have the chords, I have no idea of the timing or rhythm and no way of listening to them to try and figure it out by ear. So I guess I would just make it up until it sounds right? I presume your fathers passed on from this, since you can't ask him. Al...

Re: Switch from flatpick to fingerstyle HELP!

Pumping Nylon - Tab version is very good for picking patterns. Theres lots of information on correct technique and also 101 patterns to practice. I'd recommend that to anyone, as my teacher did to me! I've only scraped the surface on what the book has to offer. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pumping-Nylon-...
