Re: Looking for a great blues book

I have a few blues books, The Hal Leonard one already mentioned, the Blues You Can Use and one by David Hamburger called Beginner Blues (I think). Just about everybody raves about the Blues You Can Use and I think it is probably the best of the three. I really enjoyed David Hamburgers book as well t...

Re: Pick,thumpick,or fingers?

I see people using false nails on the right hand but I don't know how or what they do to manage them. When I play fingerstyle I just use the fleshy bits of my thum & fingers and I like it. I feel it is a little harder to get a nice crisp bass note though. I would love to be able to use a thumb pick ...

Re: New Guitar Hums Only At My House

Thnaks Greybeard i will try thatI expect the humming will stop. What is the next step? Does this mean I need to drive a ground rod in or somehow re ground my entire fuse box?

Re: When You Are Ready For An Upgrade On Your Guitar?

After "Upgrading" numerous I have come to believe that it is not the guitar but the guitarist that needs improving. Depending on what you are currently playing of course. If possible rent a guitar you are interested in. My local store rented a MIM Tele to me for a month for $30 and it was a great in...

Re: New Guitar Hums Only At My House

I have mostly dealt with the hum although it still needs some work. I returned my guitar and got a Tele. The Hum is still there my much much lower. I will have to look into this more however. The Passive/Active pickups in the Godin really accentuated the already preasant hum making it quite annoying...

Re: New Guitar Hums Only At My House

Is the hum the same in active and passive modes? Yes it hums in both active and passive mode, it is louder in active mode in fact. Do you have fluorescent or neon lights? I don't, other than some of those little compact ones. Can you use it in passive mode with the battery out? I don't know but I i...

Re: New Guitar Hums Only At My House

Is there any solution or test I can conduct to see if I have grounding challenges in my house? I think my electrical system is grounded to a water pipe but I may be wrong I will have to check tonight. Will the little tester Kent suggested tell me this? Now my new guitar has a HDR (High Definition Re...

Re: New Guitar Hums Only At My House

Thanks Kent, I will make a trip to Canadian Tire for one of those testers. My latest experiment with "The Hum" is this: I tried three different electrical outlets in three different rooms in the house and The Hum follows me everywhere. I am going to drag my gear to a friends house tonight and see if...

New Guitar Hums Only At My House

I just bought a nice new guitar (Godin Progression) Strat like thing. When I got it home and played it a little I noticed it hums until I touch the strings or anything metal on the guitar. I assume this is a grounding issue. I delivered it back to the store where I bought it. We could hear some hum ...

Re: Multi Effects Pedal for noobs

Thanks Kent I loved the "Monkey" explanations. slejhammer: I like the effects on the Super Champ but I think it may be fun to mix and match which you can't really do with the SC. My thought was just to plug a multi effects unit into the amp and have the amp on channel one (clean). Are there problems...

Re: Multi Effects Pedal for noobs

Thanks for the comments. My local store does have the RP155 & 355 I will look into them in more detail. I did pick up a pocket pod but it is going back. I don't like the controls with all the hold this button and then press that button to get a menu etc etc. It also seems to hiss a lot and I can't s...

Multi Effects Pedal for noobs

I have recently been curious about multi-effects pedals. I currntly have a Boss OD pedal and a superchamp xd amp. I was thinking it may be time to broaden my horizons a little. My budget is around $200 or less. I have been doing a little research and thinking digitech RP155 or similar, pocket pod et...

Re: My habit involving guitar picks...

I hold my pick in my teeth when playing fingerstyle (assuming that I was using it previously of course). I have only destroyed on pick by chewing however. I do often find that the pick has been hanging out of my mouth for a long stretch every now and then though. As for the bus, I leave my pick in m...

Re: Opening Up An Amp's Dial

Great thread guys. I have a SCXD as well. I will add my 2 cents worth. I got it almost two years ago and i like it quite a bit. The tubes went after about a month but I got them replaced ant the amp has been great ever since. I have read a lot about replacing the speaker with a Rajun Cajun but my re...

Re: Unexpected New Guitar - Too Good To Pass Up

Oh Man, I am a jealous. You get all the good guitars. Congrats & enjoy!! I have often been curious about getting an acoustic with electronics but I generally only play at home. Is there a good use for the electrics when sitting in my living room? To date I played to a 30 or so crowd just o...
