Re: Guess That Riff VIII

The song is from the band's youthful debut album ... don't let one cross your path.

Re: Guess That Riff VIII

Eric Johnson's awesome "Lonely in the Night" is the only tune I can think of based on the clues, but I'm not hearing the riff there ... :(

Re: Playing Behind the Beat

Thanks NoteBoat! Yes, "swing eighths" is the other phrase that came into mind after seeing your explanation. Very good.

I've got nothing ready ... might be able to post over the weekend. Was thinking someone else might grab this one.

Re: Pickup installation question

I'd guess one pickup may be out of phase with the other. Try reversing the leads on ONE of them; for example, if white is hot and black is ground, switch the wires so that black is hot and white goes to ground.

Re: Playing Behind the Beat

What is the difference between this and "swing feel" (or a similar phrase with "swing" in it) which I've seen on printed music? Is swing a more general term that would encompass playing both behind and ahead of the beat, or is it something different?

Re: Tone Tip From Gibson

Well, I think it's relevant in that "higher action = better tone" is often the mantra on guitar and bass forums, with no further qualification. And because I hear this "common wisdom" all the time from one of my guitarists, who has a Martin with the action so high I can stick my pinky between the st...

Re: Tone Tip From Gibson

the fact the you bring up picks as a more significant independent factor makes me think you aren't getting the holistic nature of what's going on. No, just "relatively speaking." Question: are the 'holistic' effects of higher action measurable? Meaning, can I set up my guitar for lower action, reco...
