Tone, Taste, or Technique... which is most important?

I know all three are important... but what is the most important. Maybe a better question would be what is the relative importance of each. Now I'm not talking jazz but something a like blues.

Re: Blues Pedals

I have 2 Tube Screamers a TS9 and TS808. They both sound good but the 808 is a little better. Still if you can find an amp that you can crank by itself that is still the best overdrive sound of all. Something like a Deluxe Reverb reissue sounds good. I have a Super Champ XD that I love and sounds be...

Leslie/B3 sound on guitar

I've heard some blues guys like Duke Robillard getting a leslie/B3 sound out of some kind of pedal. Anyone know how they get it?

Re: What does it take to keep a band together?

I wrote about this on my website. But in my 40 years of playing in bands (over 15) I've come to some conclusions. 1. Everyone has to be at the same musical level. If some one is clearly less skilled, the better members will get frustrated. 2. Everyone has to like the same kind of music. This can be ...

Why did your band breakup?

It's hard to keep a band together. Most bands end for some reason or another. What caused your band to breakup?

Maybe we can form a list of reasons. Here's my first 2...

1. The lead singer was a jerk.

2. Not everyone was at the same musical level.

What does it take to keep a band together?

I've been in a lot of bands. It always seems like it's a struggle to keep a band together. What do you think it takes to keep a band moving forward?

Re: I've discovered the Secret...

Ya but it's more than just the harmonic side of it. It's the tempo and the volume changes that also create the tension and resolution. Think about it... If there is a really loud intense section of a song and then it stops and there is silence... that creates resolution. But if the silence continues...

Re: Bands with no groove

Well Vic you have a point. I could have been kinder in my critique. Everyone has to learn sometime. And yes there are some things they could do to work on groove. 1. They could practice in smaller groups... like just guitar bass and drums. Or even just bass and drums. 2. They could record everything...

Bands with no groove

I went to see a band at a club the other night and I was amazed. They had no groove at all. It sounded like everyone was listening to a different metronome. OK maybe it wasn't that bad, but even my wife noticed it. And the worst part was most of the small audience didn't seem to notice it. They stil...

Any good new/young blues guitarists out there?

I like finding new blues guitarist who really move me. Some like Kenny Wayne Shepard and others talk about Johnny Lang. Let's see if we can introduce some new guys or gals here in this post.

I'll start with this video from a guitarist named Kid Royal...
