Re: Do you think the blues is too white?

Well my point was...

White folks pretty much took over likin' and playin' the blues back in the 60's. How come we can't come up with a white guitarist, after 40 years, who is as good as T-Bone Walker, B.B. King, Albert Collins, Otis Rush, Albert King, Lonnie Johnson, or Robert Johnson?

Do you think the blues is too white?

I know the blues has become mostly played by white folk. Yes there's a few blacks but the players and the fans are mostly white. Here's a web page that talks about how that happened. http://www.bluesguitarinsider.com/blues-guitar-history/hand-me-down-blues-how-the-blues-became-white . Anyway do you ...

Thanks Fleeeaa... that is helpful. So if I want to learn a song just search Google and there's probably a Guitar Pro tab somewhere.. eh?

Guitar Pro

Just got myself a copy of Guitar Pro and I'm trying to learn how to use it. Can someone who is an intermediate guitarist please help me understand what it's good for?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Ready to learn some jazz... what should I do?

Noteboat thanks so much. That was really a detailed and well-thought-out explanation. I think I will print that out and put on my desk for reference.

By the way... have you used TrueFire.com at all? I like some of the jazz lessons I've seen there. What you think?

Again thank you!

Re: What Do You Think Of Tabs?

Thanks for the responses guys. I guess they have their place and are good for getting to first base with a song or lick quickly but you won't make it all the way to home with them.

Again thanks!

I'm an experienced guitar play and I want to learn to play some jazz guitar. Any suggestions on the best way to go?

What Do You Think Of Tabs?

I've never gotten into using tabs. Is it really an effective way to learn guitar licks and chords?

If you watch Clapton he hardly ever uses his pinky.

Re: Starting over- without a teacher

Don't forget about those online video guitar lessons. I love the TrueFire stuff and for about $15 per month you can't go wrong. I'm not sure if I can post the link but I'll try...

Re: Learning from a friend that hasn't been playing...

Personally I don't think you need a professional teacher in the beginning. Just find some songs you really like and learn them. It helps if you like to sing them too. You don't have to be a good singer, just like to sing enough to keep you playing the song. There's so many great online lessons these...

Re: Tone/Amp Help

Keith is such a unique player AND a unique person. I just wish he would do something new that was as good as any of his old stuff. I haven't had an urge to learn any new Keith licks in a while. Still I love everything he does.

Re: Is the answer just to practice more?

I think it's a matter of enjoying your practicing... so whatever you can do to make it fun and relaxing at the same time. If you like to sing, or even if you don't, try singing along. This will take your mind off your fingers and you won't be so critical of yourself. Perfection will never come. But ...

Re: Strumming with plectrums

I think finding the right pick is a big part of using a plectrum. Some like small. Some like big. Some like rounded. And some like pointy. So you may have to go on a search for the right pick until you find one that feels right for you. And over time you will just get more comfortable. I know love t...
