Year 12 - Week 14 - Dances with Ghosts - Take-2

I went a totally different direction than the first. Spoiler alert at the bottom after lyrics. This is part 70's AM Gold story telling of a tragedy and part Bruce Springsteen and part Counting Crows. Probably late 70's Pop-Rock until it can't be. OK, so this song as it is has a missing element. This...

Re: Year 12 - Week 14 - Dances With Ghosts

hi everyone, thanks for all of the feedback. Some songs take me no time to write to get to this stage, but can take 6 months or more to get to the next stage. The sad part is that I've only been trying to write songs seriously for about a year or so. The feedback I got on these lyrics so far is incr...

Re: 12/15 High School

You could even change a bit of the prom lyrics to include last weeks "Dances with Ghosts" theme.

That's a pretty good song you got going there. it'll be interesting to see what a period of time does to it if you change it any this week.

Re: Y12 W15 - Cold Times

Thanks David. That was one of the ones I re-sang after "finding" my singing voice last November. It was a fun song to write and to do. All of the guitar layers might have been harsh, but such fun to play. Paralyzed by fear created, by the men who were well-dressed. The ones that we elected, scared u...

Y12 W15 - Cold Times

Another cheat, but I will write another one just to join in on the fun. Meanwhile, this is a song I did last year called Cold Times. I was inspired after listening to Neil Young's, "Cortez the Killer" and Pink Floyd's "Echoes". It is my perspective of the Cold War as a middle-schooler, which is 2-3 ...

Re: Y12 W14

I can dig it. I see where you're going. should be a cool tune.

One line seems a bit confusing:
"I dance with ghosts
Haunted by my past"

It reads like the ghosts are haunted by your past. Perhaps something like this, but less wordy.
"I dance with ghosts
haunting me from my past"

Year 12 - Week 14 - Dances With Ghosts

Quite a few directions to take on this one. I ended up writing one giant, cheese-filled cliché. I have not recorded anything yet. I do not even have a tune in mind. I've not even decided on genre, although this does kind of steer me towards a bit of a Country Blues kind of thing. My biggest problem ...

Re: Year 12 Wk 14 - Dancing With Ghosts

Sometimes the muse can't push the keys fast enough. Nice job. It sounds like the song came with an emotional price-tag, though. Alas, those are usually my best. :(

Re: Y12W14 Dancing with Ghosts

Hi James, I'm a bad combination of thick-headed and vastly inexperienced, so keep that in mind..... So, I'm having a bit of difficulty connecting the dots with this song. What is the action that is represented by the metaphor? That aside, I think it's a really nice sounding song for such short notic...

Re: Y12,W13 - Dark Things To Do

Hi Vic, thanks for the welcome. Yeah, I kind of got into song writing this past year. Something I never thought would happen. My first attempt in 2012 was quite miserable. Things change, though. The muse found me and has paid quite a few visits. I've recorded 13 of them, IIRC, with another 2-3 neari...

Re: Y12,W13 - Dark Things To Do

Hi James. Thanks for looking. That sounds like good advice, re the target that shifts. I thought the intro section and the rest of the song were different enough to separate the boss "scene" and the rest of it, but had no idea, until now, to make the subsequent rest of the song more focused or targe...

Y12,W13 - Dark Things To Do

I just remembered about this group. I had not participated in this part of the forum before as I was not writing songs until recently. soooo, I happened to bring it up and look at the current assignment and got lucky enough to see that not only was it something I have already written, I had also alr...

Thanks again, NoteBoat. Going into the A-major works very well for that bit. Now if I can whip the rest of the song into shape.....
