2/17 Opposites Attract

The Sunday Songwriters club is a stretching exercise for your mind. Arpeggios for the brain cells, so to speak. After all, writing is like playing - to get better, you have to practice.

2/17 Opposites Attract

Post by John Sargent » February 26th, 2014, 9:42 am

I'm playing around with tempo/ rhythm changes here

Opposites Attract

Opposites attract
Opposites attract
It’s an electromagnetic fact
That opposites attract

(Verse 1)
I had to get a science credit
Enrolled in a physics class
Never went to sleep there, more than once
But I daydreamed a lot

The teacher spoke in gibberish
Or some kind of code
I only understood one single thing
But why it works I forgot

Chorus / Chorus

(Pre Chorus)
Particle physics explores the subatomic realm,
Which consists of quarks, leptons and the forces that govern them.
They are the strong nuclear, weak nuclear and gravitational force.
And of course
The electromagnetic force

Chorus / Chorus

(Verse 2)
I saw a video with Paula Abdul
Dancing with a cartoon cat, it was real cool
One step forward and two steps back
MTV proved that opposites attract

Chorus / Chorus

John, I like the fact that you chose to go with the literal physics meaning of the phrase and then end up with the MTV image.

I'm not sure of the meaning of this line and think that maybe it doesn't say what you intended:

"Never went to sleep there, more than once"

Hi John,

I thought I saw this posted already and already replied :? ....maybe I just thought I replied. On the read nothing is "wrong" but two red flags pop up
1 singability of the lyrics - but if you have something in mind, it shouldn't be an issue
2 including "fad" facts....will your audience "get" the Paula Abdul reference?...in other words it limits who might understand the song, but again just something to consider not necessarily "wrong".

I look forward to the listen.
