Y12W28 Peter The Blues Lovin' Elephant

The Sunday Songwriters club is a stretching exercise for your mind. Arpeggios for the brain cells, so to speak. After all, writing is like playing - to get better, you have to practice.

Peter is the leader
The leader of a blues lovin’ band
A blues lovin’ band in the heart of Siam
In the heart of Siam you can hear ol’ Peter jam

Peter gets upset
Upset at his regrets
Cause his regrets; he never forgets
He never forgets got them blues stuck in his head

Chorus
Peter the blues lovin’ elephant
Peter the blues lovin’ elephant
That pachyderm is full of concern
Peter the blues lovin’ elephant

When Peter played his debut
His debut made the news
The news got around to all of the zoos
All of the zoos know that Peter loves them blues

chorus

Peter played for peanuts
But peanuts made him cry
Cry, cry, cry; asking why
Why can’t I remember to forget
To forget just once in a while?

Okay, this made my month. Maybe the whole year. I totally lost it when it got to the solo. Well done! (I can even hear Cab Calloway's band doing backup on the chorus'...)

Personally, maybe just to give Peter more of a back story, I might be tempted to might the chorus a little less serious:
Peter the blues lovin’ elephant
Peter the blues lovin’ elephant
That swinging pachyderm left his accounting firm (or his old law firm)
And now he's Peter the blues lovin’ elephant
Thanks tremendously for this. Too cool.

As always, I look forward to more.

Peace

Hi David,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I'll stick with what I have for now, b/c the premise is built on the following:

Elephants never forget

What is blues? Remembering/not letting go of negative things in the past/present

Hyperthymesia in unique humans (maybe all elephants  ) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperthymesia

"Memories good and bad
Baron is just the third person in America to have a super-autobiographical memory, according to researchers studying the phenomenon at the University of California-Irvine. The first, Jill Price of Los Angeles, views her perfect recall as more of a curse, because the bad things that have happened in her life keep cropping up to torment her. "
