Y13W8 Mr. Candy Cane (A children's Christmas song)

The Sunday Songwriters club is a stretching exercise for your mind. Arpeggios for the brain cells, so to speak. After all, writing is like playing - to get better, you have to practice.

Y13W8 Mr. Candy Cane (A children's Christmas song)

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13002508

=====Revised Version=====

Chorus
Mr. Candy Cane (3 times)
He was made to share a message of love
Mr. Candy Cane

Why are candy canes curved?
Please tell me, sir
Candy canes are curved like a shepherd’s staff
Because the angels told the shepherds where Jesus was at
And He’s our Good Shepherd

Why are candy canes what’s that flavor?
I forgot the word
Candy canes are peppermint flavored
The Wise Men gave spices to Jesus the Savior
And He’s our Savior too

chorus

Why are candy canes striped?
I’m at a loss
Candy canes are striped because Jesus bled
When He died on a cross

chorus

Bridge
A candy cane makes a letter J
J is for Jesus so remember Him on Christmas Day

chorus

=====Original Version=====
Chorus
Mr. Candy Cane (3 times)
He was made to share a message of love
Mr. Candy Cane

Why are candy canes curved?
Please tell me, sir
Candy canes are curved like a shepherd’s staff
Because the angels told the shepherds where Jesus was at
And He’s our Good Shepherd

Why are candy canes white?
Please tell me, sir
Candy canes are white because Jesus was pure
That’s why candy canes are white

chorus

Why are candy canes what’s that flavor?
I forgot the word
Candy canes are peppermint flavored
The Wise Men gave spices to Jesus the Savior
And He’s our Savior too

Why are candy canes striped?
I’m at a loss
Candy canes are striped because Jesus bled
When He died on a cross

chorus

J is for Jesus so remember Him on Christmas Day

Hi James

Enjoyed this very much - and excuse my ignorance on the matter, but is this true? Even if it's not, it's wild!

My only suggestion is that the second half of the first verse ("why are candy canes white?"), while certainly important to the discussion, seems to be trumped by the "why are candy canes striped?" which pops up later. If someone is going to ask just about the white outside of the stripes, it seems a little odd. And yes, minor quibbles still seem to be my forte. I'll work on that as a New Year's Resolution.

Anyway, my thought is that you could get rid of the second half of the first verse and replace it with the first half of the second (flavor) and then after the chorus use only the second half of the second verse (striped), with the chorus and bridge following as they stand now. You could also swap in the bridge for the second half of either verse. The bridge was so enjoyable that it certainly could be heard a second time.

As always, thank you for making my Sundays more enjoyable. I look forward to more.

Peace
