Year 14 Weeks 15 & 16 Anywhere (You Want To Be)

The Sunday Songwriters club is a stretching exercise for your mind. Arpeggios for the brain cells, so to speak. After all, writing is like playing - to get better, you have to practice.

Year 14 Weeks 15 & 16 Anywhere (You Want To Be)

Post by Celt » February 15th, 2016, 2:44 pm

Couldn't come up with anything more than a title last week so I used it this week.

Found it interesting that this assignment forced me to work out the music first
as I usually work both together or lyrics first.

Anyways that drunken 3am phone call nobody wants to get from their ex:

Anywhere (You Want To Be)

Capo 4 G chord forms

Actual Key B

G Em C G

G Em
The north wind's blowing cold tonight
C G
I can feel it in my bones
G Em
And I only call to see if I could make it right
C G
I never felt so all alone
G Em
Those things I did those words I spoke
C G
I know that they were wrong
G Em
And the more I drink the more I sound
C G
Like some old country song
G
But I'd

Bm C
Drive that lonesome highway
Bm C
Sail the seven seas
Bm C
Walk through rings of fire
C Am G
To be anywhere you want to be

Am G

G Em
I know it's late please don't hang up
C G
If we can work this through
G Em
I promise that I'm a better man
C G
When I'm a part of you
G
And I'd

Bm C
Drive that lonesome highway
Bm C
Sail the seven seas
Bm C
Walk through rings of fire
C Am G
To be anywhere you want to be
Am G
Anywhere you want to be

Hi John,

Really enjoyed this. I did have a thought . . . . . in your chorus you use terms we're very familiar with . . . . lonesome road . . . . seven seas . . . . . ring of fire. And, honestly, they work just great here. Wonder if it might be a fun exercise to replace them with some new and less familiar terms. Just a thought.

Neil,

Thanks. You are correct the lines you mention are a bit cliche but to me
they work off the line about sounding like some old country song. Espesially
Rings of fire.
