Headphone Hiss?

Post by JoeHempel » October 14th, 2009, 8:17 am

I just recorded a file using my condensor mic. When I play it through the speakers of my laptop, tons of hiss. When I play it through my standard headphones, tons of hiss. Play it through my Samson NC900 almost no hiss at all unless I jack up the volume.

I guess I don't understand why the difference.

Here's the file: Anglaise by Francesco Molino http://www.reverbnation.com/eplay/queue ... cont=false

Hmmm..
NC900 = Noise Canceling Headphones

I wonder if the noise canceling circuit is interpreting the hiss as noise?

Joe - can you check that link, it didn't bring up anything to listen to

Try recording with the treble rammed up to max and then turning it back to normal on playback; I found that worked on some of my older tape recordings

Hmm....Thanks Alan, it was coming up with it earlier

http://www.reverbnation.com/joehempel -- it's the one title Anglaise. I did some noise reduction on it because it was the file not the speakers, and was wondering if this sounds muddy to anyone.
Try that.

Sounds ok to me Joe, but then the speakers on my laptop aren't all that great. I can hear it just fine, no hissing.
Where do you get your energies? Well its a vicious circle thing, If I hadn't ever played an instrument then I wouldn't ever need to play one. But now that I've been playing, I need to play. - Eric Clapton 1967 RollingStone interview

Yeah the hiss is gone, but to me it sounds like I recorded this in a tunnel.
