Working on a Studio

I have lots of space in my room that I can use, so I was thinking of making a bit of a studio in there. I want to become a musician anyways, so I figure that however it turns out, I'll learn from the experience. I wasn't thinking anything fancy, just something to get me started:

I also want to get a laptop I can use solely for recording. I need some recommendations for an affordable laptop and a just as affordable program I can use to edit (I'm having a really bad time with Garage Band. It's not up to the task  )

I am just starting out with guitar, but my teacher says I am coming along fast, and I am going to try and get some friends together to record with. With a little luck, maybe we'll go further than just an occasional recording here and there. I will appreciate any help you guys can offer me :D

no one replied? how is it going?
the recording package you linked is fine to start.
you need a recording program. I like Cubase. also using a digital interface will make things easier or more rewarding.
I like this link to gain info.
