Yeah I think a tube screamer is the perfect place to start and build from there

We recently published a list on the best overdrive pedals for blues players. It's often difficult finding your own tone - we 100% recommend the Ibanez Tube Screamer and a high quality marshall amp to go with it. That's a great place to start.
