Newsletter Vol. 1 # 61 - August 26, 2002
Hello Guitar Players,
Welcome to the latest issue of Guitar Noise News, for the week of August 26, 2002.
Something a little different on the site this week. We have two new articles and two different views on DIY recording. After getting the articles ready for the site I realized that they actually have completely opposite messages. But that’s a good thing. I hope you’ll read them both and enjoy the variety of different opinions that we are pleased to offer.
In this newsletter:

- New Guitar Lessons

News and Announcements
Air Guitar Legends Strike a Chord
OULU, Finland (CNN) — Proving once and for all it’s no game for airheads — or headbangers — the world’s top non-musical guitar maestroes have been showing their mettle.
The 7th annual world air guitar championships have taken place in Oulu, Finland, proving you don’t have to be able to play a note to be a world rock star.
Top bands like Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and the Grateful Dead have long inspired their fans to a frenzy of imaginary guitar strumming.
But this, as they say, was the real thing — before a live audience of 3,000, mostly Finnish — as air guitar came out of teenagers’ bedrooms and onto the world stage.

Recording With Your Own Money (Without a Producer)
By A-J Charron (26 Aug 2002)
So you’ve decided it’s time to record an album, yet you have no label backing you. It’s a great idea overall: presenting a finished album to a label is much more interesting for them as all the work is already done. They just need to put it into production and onto the store tablets.
Can You Really Do It All Yourself?
By Stephen Sherrard (26 Aug 2002)
Recently, on the message board on this site, someone was thinking about buying a digital recording system and was wondering if he really could get major label quality results from a low budget home studio system. This is my unedited reply to that question.
Worth another Look
In each newsletter I scan through the Website and recover some older lessons that are worth mentioning again. Here is this week’s blast from the past.
A Study on Intervals
by Jimmy Hudson (03 Mar 1999)
For anyone who has ever asked why do I need theory? Here is the answer. Music is a language and at some point you have to have agreements where all musicians can understand what you are talking about. If we did not have theory then the music would not be in existence.
There is a list of all of Jimmy’s lessons here.

Email of the Week
This week I’d like to reprint a sample of the type of feedback we receive every week. We have bucket load of this stuff and it is always encouraging.
Guys, this site is just incredible. I found you about 2 weeks ago, and I have already found more valuable, helpful material here than I ever got out of 2+ years of guitar lessons.
My only complaint (and its really a compliment in disguise) is that there is just so much here that it is hard to take it all in. I have used the search feature and find it helpful, and I have to say that I find something great on here to help me play better every day.
I hope that you guys get some satisfaction from this message, because the work you are doing is SO worthwhile… thank you so much for the help, and please keep it going!

I just wanted to tell you that I have just found this website through a friend, and it is exactly what I have been looking for. I have tried various sites, but the junk that is out there is amazing.
Thank you for all of the well written, and carefully selected documentation. Thank you for not having a slurry of pop-up ads that turn me away. Thank you for all of your time and effort into a very well designed, thorough, and comprehensive website that caters to all levels and styles.
I look forward to taking my new lessons home for a long session. All of your effort are sure to take me to another level of my abilities.
We love receiving your Email and always take the time to try and answer your questions. Many past questions have been asked in different ways, and the answer may already appear somewhere on our site. If you have a question please check out the help pages.
If you have any guitar playing friends who might benefit from this newsletter please remember to forward it to them.
All the best,
Paul Hackett
Executive Producer
