News And Announcements
Greetings!
Welcome to Guitar Noise News! My apologies in that this week’s missive will be one of the shorter ones! It’s truly been a week for the books – a simple office move at my “real” job, (for those of you who don’t know, I work 7 – 5 Monday through Friday at an ad agency) (and no, it’s one of those “number cruching things, don’t look to me to get you into a commercial) turned into a nightmare of politics and logistics.
All this trickles down… articles get edited later than normal, submissions are read later, lessons that are being written are put on hold… well, you get the idea.
But, fortunately, Paul taught me well. In spite of everything, we’ve got some great new stuff for you this week. And it just means that you’re going to get a LOT of stuff in the upcoming weeks.
Don’t forget we’re still taking your thoughts and stories concerning “The Joy of Guitar” or “The Joy of Music.” Take a moment to send us yours.
Okay, let’s see what we’ve got, shall we?
New Lessons And Articles
These next two weeks, I’d like to highlight our sister site, MusicCareers.net. We’ve got some wonderful advice from a new writer and the latest set of “Five Questions with LT.” Here’s what’s gone online since we last chatted:
Playing For Life
by Chris Juergensen
Who reads Guitar Noise? Well, obviously you do! Did you know that the Director of Education at the Tokyo School of Music does too? Chris Juergensen has kindly given of his time to share with you all sorts of advice gleaned from his years as a studio musician and guitar teacher. I think that you’ll find his wisdom a great help to you.
Another Five Questions With LT
by David Hodge
LT talks about the music business – everything from looking through the eyes of the club owner to the recent wrangling with the music publishers and record companies over royalties. As always, her candor is refreshing and gives you a lot to think about.
Things To Do – People To See
HEY!!! Are YOU or YOUR BAND playing sometime in November or December? Well, let me know and I’ll be happy to pass the word along. Guitar Noise is read by people all over the world, so who knows? You might find yourself meeting someone and you’ll have something in common already.
This week:
Guitar Noise reader Randy Combs and his band, Flipside, will be playing all week (the 18th through the 23rd) at the Spirits Lounge in Florence, South Carolina. Be sure to check them out if you’re in the area
Sunday Songwriters Group
SSG – Week 6
Take any one of your old songs and rewrite it from anybody else’s perspective: the girlfriend, the Priest, the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker. Be sure to post the original song as well so everyone can compare the two. You may change any aspect of your old song, structure, meter, rhyme scheme, or keep it true to the original, as long as the point of view changes.

The Indie Bible (fourth edition)
I cannot begin to tell you what an incredible source this book is!! Here, at your fingertips, are literally THOUSANDS of places where you can submit your music for review, airplay and internet exposure. If you are the least bit serious about getting your songs out to the world, you will want to check out The Indie Bible.
Hot Forum Topic
Okay, this isn’t exactly a topic either (I AM in a rut, no?), but it’s very exciting. Paul has spent his week coming up with a way for everyone who uses the forum to do polls! Now you have the ability to take your own votes on subjects of your choice. And you still get the all the friendly feedback and witty repartee the Guitar Noise Forums are famous for.
For info on how to get in on the fun, read the Guitar Noise forums.
Thoughts and Feedback
Sometimes, like this week, I can’t help but wonder what it would be like if I wasn’t working. Rather, if I had the ability to simply “work” here at Guitar Noise. Writing lessons, answering emails, spending the spare time I now use writing and answering emails to do things like, I don’t know, maybe go through the old lessons and add sound files. Perhaps arrange things so that you had new song lessons each week – maybe rotate the weeks between beginners’, intermediates’, a “TAB by request” and maybe something specifically for the electric guitar.
And still take the time to write the columns. Does anyone besides me miss those?
Ah well, right now I can best get on track by finishing up the stuff here at the office (I’m writing during lunch) and clear up that spare time again. Lots of stuff to do to get next week’s Guitar Noise going and it’s going to be a great week.
I hope that each of you has a great week as well. I look forward to hearing from you.
As always,
Peace
David
