News And Announcements

Greetings and Welcome to Guitar Noise News!

On behalf of Paul, myself and all the Guitar Noise writers, let me wish you all a happy holiday season.

I guess I wasn’t the only one excited about the MP3s that accompanied our last Intermediate Song lesson (”Losing My Religion”). They seem to be much more appreciated than the MIDI files. Hopefully, as I get better at using the technology, things will get smoother. My plan is to try to go back through many of the old lessons and add files where I feel they can be best used. So if you have one in mind, let me know.

New Lessons And Articles

Here’s what’s gone online since we last chatted:

The Joy Of Music (part 4)

I tried to get everyone who wrote in on this last article. I’ve been especially aware that over the run of this series, we’ve met people of all ages (there’s a school paper from an eleven year old) and all walks of life. From stories of one’s first gig to tales of people managing to find the time to get music into their lives, I thank you all for sharing with us this past four weeks.

Silent Night
by David Hodge

My gift to all of you: a simple yet elegant, single guitar arrangement of a beautiful Christmas song. Just return the favor by not riding me for all of the muffed notes in the MP3!

Sunday Songwriters Group

Week 11

You knew it was coming, didn’t you? Do I really need to tell you this week’s topic? Take any two choruses written in last week’s exercise and write the verses that surround it. Here is the suggested scheme:

Verse 1
Chorus
Verse 2

Chorus
Verse 3

If you write three four-line verses, that’s a grand total of 12 lines. You can do it. Of course you can write 8 line verses or add another verse in somewhere if you please. If you’re really in a writing frenzy, throw in a bridge.

Do I have to say you can’t use either your own title or chorus? I didn’t think so. You may modify the chorus you pick with any suggestions from other SSG participants, or tweak it for line length if you must. Do try to keep it as close to original as you can.

(IMPORTANT NOTE: Week 11 will actually be two weeks long! Next new topic will be on Sunday, January 5th so have a Happy New Year and, as ever, write well!)

Thoughts and Feedback

Paul and I are both taking it easy these next two weeks. I have got quite a few lessons and articles to edit, not to mention numerous lessons to write and record. I could take a six month leave of absence from my job and teaching and not begin to make a dent on all the stuff to do!

But I want to again take the time to wish all of you a wonderful holiday season and next week, while there may be no new lessons, let’s look back at all the great stuff we did this past year. If you’ve got a favorite new lesson or writer or Guitar Noise event, let me know and we’ll see which ones people liked most.

I hope that each of you has a great week. I look forward to hearing from you.

As always,

Peace

David
