News And Announcements

Greetings!

Welcome to Guitar Noise News!

First off, let me apologize for the brevity of this newsletter. It’s not that there’s not a lot of news (actually there’s just a lot of news! Some will have to wait ’til next week), rather it’s that I’m going to be off this weekend playing in Chicago for a Saint Patrick’s Day affair. There’s just no time to get my act together! In fact, I think this is the first week since the new year I’ve not had a piece of my own to put up. It’s probably just as well since I know that many of you are probably tired of seeing my face up on the home page so often!

Remember that today, Sunday, March 14 is the last day to qualify for the Shadow Stand Guitar Stand Giveaway! Whew! That’s a mouthful! Nick Torres has to find new homes for two of these wonderful guitar stands. Will it be yours? If you’ve not taken a chance yet, click over here.

Before you read anything else! The winner will be selected tomorrow!

And now, not to shift gears too drastically, I’d like to bring you this issue’s “Email of the Week,” because it’s one I’ve been itching to publicly answer for ages now:

I’ve been following your site now for about 4 months. I am only a beginner and I really enjoy every part of your site. I would love to see your lessons on a CD. I can’t always play and practice in front of our computer in the family room for obvious reasons and my computer downstairs doesn’t have Internet access. I would gladly purchase your lessons on CD; then I could practice them when I can. I tried printing them but it isn’t the same when you can’t listen to you play (which is the best part). If this option becomes available please let me know. Keep up the great work.

Well, I’ve good news for you! Paul’s been working on this project for ages and I can now officially tell you that The Portable Guitar Noise CD 2004 is now a reality! This CD-Rom has almost everything that has ever gone up on this site from its inception up ’til through January of this year. That’s more than three hundred and fifty lessons (including all of mine!), not to mention all the MP3s, charts, TABS and notation. And some of our terrific friends like the folks at Guitar Breakthrough, Acousticguitarworkshop.com and Guitarandbass.com.au have provided us with some bonus material that’s not been seen on this site before. If that’s not enough, you can even find a bonus MP3 in the For What It’s Worth lesson, for what that’s worth.

I’ve been spending the last two weeks testing it out (Paul figures that if I can work it, anyone can!) and I have to tell you it’s impressive. You can pretty much take Guitar Noise with you wherever you happen to have a computer.

So, where do you get a copy of The Portable Guitar Noise CD 2004? I’m glad you asked that as well (and I told you there was a lot of news today!). If you haven’t visited our home page in a while, and I know a lot of folks don’t – some click straight to lessons from the links here (when they work, that is! And sorry about the mix-up two weeks ago on the Preparing To Climb lesson…), while others use the forum page as their point of entry onto the site.

Well, if you’d visit the home page, you’ll notice that it’s a bit more streamlined. And at the top of the page, you’ll see a set of five icons arranged like the tabs of an index file. One of them says “Store.” If you click on it, you’ll go here.

That’s right, the “Guitar Noise Store” is now officially open! You’ll find not only The Portable Guitar Noise CD 2004 here, but all sorts of other things as well. And while we’re very excited about this, we’re even more excited about all the stuff we’ll be bringing you in the future. So keep an eye out. You never know what you might find there!

And now, moving right along, let’s see what news this week at Guitar Noise.

New Lessons And Articles

Legato Playing – Volume II
by Hans Fahling

Hans picks up right where he left off, giving all sorts of exercises designed to help any guitarist develop speed and accuracy. If you’re not careful, you may also pick up some theory!

Humble Pie
by Steve Schmeiding

Sometimes learning what you don’t know can teach you an incredible wealth of things. Please welcome Guitar Noise reader Steve Schmeiding to our pages as he tells us of a point in his learning that I think many of us, if not all of us, can relate to.

Thoughts & Feedback

As I mentioned, things will be a little short this week. But rest assured that we’ll be right back next week with even more stuff, including the spring and summer schedule of our Guitar Noise seminars.

Who knows, I may even write a lesson or two…

I hope you all have a grand week. Stay safe. Write me!

And, as always,

Peace

David
