On April 6, 1968 Syd left Pink Floyd for good. From here David took over as the main guitarist for
the band. His work can be heard on the second half of A
Saucerful of Secrets. On the following album,
the soundtrack for the film More, David contributed several acoustic songs.
CIRRUS MINOR
Cirrus Minor is the five minute song that begins
the album More. While the original version uses an altered
tuning, you can play it in standard tuning by finger picking the chords.

GREEN IS THE COLOUR
From the soundtrack to More, you can balance out the left speaker on this song and the solo will be much easier to hear. Listen carefully during
the intro as some of the notes are difficult to hear. This guitar
continues throughout the verses.

A SPANISH PIECE
A Spanish Piece is another acoustic track off the More Soundtrack. No transcription is currently available.
In 1970 Floyd released their first double-album, Ummagumma.
The first half is live recordings from London in 1969. The other half is mostly experimental
pieces, including two acoustic tracks.
THE NARROW WAY PART ONE
This song is played in Dropped D tuning. Dropped D tuning is achieved by lowering the low E is string to D so that your guitar will be tuned like this: DADGBE. This is easy if you have a chromatic or electronic tuner. Guitar Noise has several lessons on tuning if you need to read more on this topic.
GRANTCHESTER MEADOWS
Grantchester Meadows is a seven minute song written by Roger. It also employs the Dropped D tuning. Dropped D tuning is useful for giving a song a darker sound.

Ummagumma was followed by Atom
Heart Mother, the album with the cool cow cover.
It contains three acoustic pieces: Summer '68, If and Fat Old Sun, which David revived on his 2002 DVD In Concert. None of these tracks pose any real difficulties. There is also an interesting acoustic section in the
lengthy Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast.
IF
If uses a simple picking pattern reminiscent of Julia Dream. This is another song by Roger.

SUMMER '68
Once again, here is another song incorporating the Dropped D tuning. Dropped D is one of the more common alternate tunings to use as it only involves retuning one string.

FAT OLD SUN
Fat Old Sun is the mostly acoustic song that David played at the 2001 Meltdown festival, which was filmed for the DVD in Concert. On the album version the guitar solo is played on electric. On the DVD, however, you will see it can also be played with an acoustic.

ALAN'S PSYCHEDELIC BREAKFAST
This song's second part, entitled "Sunny Side Up"
uses the unique D6 Tuning (DADF#BD). This portion of the track
begins at 4:36.
There is no
transcription available at the moment.
Pink Floyd's classic album Meddle contains a few new acoustic tunings making it one of the band's most mellow albums.
A PILLOW OF WINDS
This song was written by David and Roger.

FEARLESS
Fearless employs an open tuning. Using the same principles
we used for Dropped D tuning, we need to lower the pitch of three strings. The tuning used in Fearless is Open G: DGDGBD.

SEAMUS
Using yet another tuning, Seamus is played
in E. Your acoustic should be tuned down one whole step to sound
in the key of D. If you have someone else to play slide guitar
they should tune their guitar to Open D tuning which looks like:
DADF#AD.

SAN TROPEZ
San Tropez is played in standard tuning. The guitar solo and fills are played with a slide. You will have to use your fingers rather than using a pick as you need to skip strings.

Obscured By Clouds, the excellent album that separates Meddle and Dark Side of the Moon. This album is the soundtrack for the film La Valle
and returns the band to simpler acoustic songs in standard tuning. It is perhaps the band's most acoustic album.
WOT'S...UH, THE DEAL?
Less is more here. The verse is made up of a simple arpeggio pattern while the chorus is played by strumming open position chords. If you are learning to sing and play guitar at the same time, this is a good beginner song. At
3:15 there is a slide guitar solo. The slide guitar should be tuned: D G D G B E (low to high).

CHILDHOOD'S END
In Childhood's End you can distinctly hear all the chords being doubled on acoustic guitar. If you are playing solo you could simply do the entire song acoustic. It uses simple open chords, with little variation.
