Captain Jack – Nowhere Fast
A new album for the trio. An honest sound which, to some extent, reminds me of a very underrated band, Toad the Wet Sprocket.
The promotional material describes them as a unique blend of pop-punk. I’m not sure that description fits very well. Doesn’t sound very punk to me. Pop, certainly, but in a good way.
The production work is sleek and the songs are simple, yet there’s a fresh breath of perfect honesty throughout the album. Three guys having fun doing what they enjoy.
4 AM in particular could play on any radio station and would be requested. A very catchy hook that will soon have you singing along with it.
Ghost Town will be a major hit if it gets radio airplay. It fits into the format, but most of all, it is a great song. More mellow than the rest of the album, yet not too mellow. Laidback. Just the right amount of ingredients to make it a winning combination.
Overall, an album which is pleasant to listen to. Although it won’t take you to the far corners of the Earth, it still contains a few gems all its own. Something you can play for everyone. From a band who certainly have a great career ahead of them.
I suggest you don’t put it away after the first listen. Play it several times, get familiar with the songs, you’ll find that it grows on you.
