Caterine: Fear – Pain – Love

In another lifetime, Jimmy Caterine played guitar in Sacred Rite, among other bands, and has opened for Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot, Triumph, Ronnie Montrose, Yngwie Malmsteen, REO Speedwagon and many more. Owing to a number of misfortunes, (injuries and a very bad car accident to cite two), he understandibly took some time off. Sentinel Steel, an indie metal label, released a complete compilation of the original 3 Sacred Rite classics in two volumes Rites of Passage volumes 1 & 2. Jimmy’s also been busy on solo work and a little over a year ago released this CD.

Regardless of the backstory, Fear – Pain – Love is a moving testimony to the power and imagination of both the guitar and guitarist. From the opening blindingly fast rush of ’80’s style guitars in Looking Glass and Blind Sight to the moody lyrical quality of Blue Sky or Carbon Monoxide and Forgotten Love, Jimmy plays his instruments with his heart on his sleeve. And you’re more than happy to take a musical journey with him.

There are some driving, hard rocking pieces, such as Prelude to the End of Time and Tetris/Emotional Rain, dark and menacing songs (the appropriately titled March of Doom) and moments of quiet and intricately crafted beauty, as in Mother of Sorrow and Not My Horse (an homage, if you will, to the Stones’ Wild Horses) and the closing song, Parlez-Vous Francais?

If you’re in the mood for some pure guitar music, you definitely want to put this CD on your sound system. Check out more about Jimmy and his great music at his website.
