Tempest – The Double Cross

This was quite a surprise to me. There was a band called Tempest in the late 60’s early 70’s, which spawned Allan Holdsworth. This is not the same band, in fact, not even close. By no means is this a bad thing as I found this CD quite interesting. I would term this as Celtic Prog.

The Double Cross is a concept album about Captain Kidd, as far as I can gather. The musicianship offered is great and the arrangements quite involved for a sound that is a cross between rock and blue grass. Though it was enjoyable, I found this combo quite different, as I’m really not used to this type of music.

Hopefully no one will take offense at this but the imagery that this music had for me was a combination of high sea adventure and Leprechauns dancing around in fields of four-leaf clovers.
