Cons:

Over the years it seems I’m always searching for a product just a bit better than what I have. Three years ago I bought an On-Stage single guitar stand. It was plenty stable, strong, and had a spring lock that came down in front of the neck so the guitar couldn’t fall out. It seemed to be the best stand out there on the market so I bought two more.

Still, one thing that annoyed me was getting my guitar strap and/or cable snagged on the stand. It happened way too often. Here’s the scenario: I travel somewhere and set up the stand, tune my guitar, and then return the guitar to the stand. A little later it’s time to play so I bend down, flip the lever, grab the guitar and strap and BAM. Stuck. I’d say at least half the time my guitar strap snagged on the feet of the guitar stand. Other times I’d pick up the guitar and start to get my strap on when the guitar cable decides to wrap around the stand prongs. Oh, not to mention (well, I guess I am mentioning it) that it gets more frustrating and dangerous for the guitar as the night progresses.

At home I literally hang my guitar on the wall with another fine product (Off The Wall guitar hanger, $30). Therefore, I may be biased in having a guitar hang from the neck rather than having the body sitting in a cradle. Now that’s out of the way…

So I decided to research some guitar stands again and purchased one a couple of months ago. It’s called the Ultimate GS 100 Guitar Stand and it sells at many online dealers for $25. Yea, that’s a lot for a guitar stand, yet I generally believe you get what you pay for. This stand has many features that set it apart from the crowd. It folds up very compact (roughly 24″ x 4″) and can fit in a gig bag. It is very light so another plus for travel. It floored me how such a compact product could transform to a great operational guitar stand in the time it just took you to read this sentence.

It has a tripod base that makes it really stable. The pole/yoke that holds the headstock telescopes up and down to the height you want for your instrument with one lever. Simple. The best part is there are no protruding objects for your strap or cable to snag on since the guitar is suspended by the headstock! I was in Heaven. There is even a place at the top of the stand to place your picks. That’s of little value to me but may be to others.

All in all, I’ve been very pleased with it. How pleased? I ordered two more and that’s from a guy who’s not rich by a long shot. Further, I went to the effort to write this review to spread my feelings about it. So check ’em out at any of the following:
