is playing the bass the same as a guitar with lower notes and no chord shapes?
Sure, just like Oboe is like Bassoon
Mechanically speaking, yes, it is. Fretting works the same; plucking works pretty much the same, and all the equipment is similar. A bassist's job and a guitarists job are very different, though. Basses are also much harder to play cleanly than guitars are. Guitar is a good head start for bass playing, but just transferring your guitar skills over won't make you a complete bassist.
we want to become an average bass player , so that we can do bass time and again.Of course , we are all not paul mcartney who can play both guitar n bass perfectly (and left handed DAMN !!! )
why we?
why we?
We all speak English differently...
... or maybe he's got 2 bass players in his group.

By 'We' i meant the general people who i have seen playing around me.Okay to be very specific , i will like guitar to be my principle instrument and learn bass so as to play or jam along pretty decently.
I don't want to become a virtuoso bass player , but i still want to play it fine. :P
I started out on bass and took my learnings to guitar.
Music is one of the most powerful forces on this planet, why not put it to use?
