Do long scale strings work on a short scale bass?

It's too bulky on the tuning peg and you may not be able to get it through the hole without whizzing it.  😉

You are right, using long scale strings on a short scale bass like the Hofner Icon Bass isn't recommended because they're designed for higher tension, which can strain the neck, cause tuning instability, and lead to intonation issues.
